Cameron didn't like curfew, never had, never would. So when they decided that his late night sneak outs were getting a little out of hand, especially with what was out on campus at night unbeknownst to him and started locking his door from the outside at ten pm and unlocking it at 6 am every night...he had something to say about it. It wasn't that it wasn't safe in case of emergency, the teacher's room was right across the hall. It had been going on for a few days now, and needless to say, he was already a little stir crazy. He was more of a night rider than anything else, and sitting on his motorcycle in the dorm room just wasn't doing it for him. He of course had thought about driving through the door with the motorcycle...but that would possibly damage the fender, and he wasn't about to do that. So instead, he had another game to play. Armed with his electric guitar, he turned up the speakers and aimed them for the door. It was time...it was time to blast the door down with music. And so, with a smirk on his face he started jamming on his guitar, softly at first to get the feel for the music, but slowly, slowly he built it up so it was full on jamming. He was sure a teacher was about to come running...

The minute that Derek had found out that Austin was working late, he immediately snuck out of the apartment that they were sharing. Well, snuck out was kind of a loose term. He told Ivy to stay and opened the door before walking out, not meeting another soul as he left the building. But, in his mind, he had snuck out, since Austin had specifically told him to stay put. Derek’s first day at Quasar bullshit preppy Academy was tomorrow, and Derek knew Austin wanted him to make a good impression. Derek had other plans, though. He wasn’t going to be pegged the new kid the minute he walked onto campus. No, he was going to make some friends tonight. As Derek snuck into the dormitory, though, what he hadn’t expected was radio silence. It was barely after 10:00pm, there was no way the entire student body was this lame. He soon got his answer though, as he tried to open several doors, only to find that they were locked. It was literally like a jail here, thank goodness his mother wasn’t requesting him to live on campus. Granted, it was his fault that he wasn’t going to be able to attend his previous high school for his senior year. He had been the one who had gotten expelled after a fist fight. But, he still blamed his mother for sending him all the way to Firefly Falls. He knew she was hoping that his goody-two shoes half-brother was going to wear off on him, but that sure as hell wasn’t going to happen. There was no way he, Derek, master of all pranks and mischief, was ever going to settle into a police job. The mere thought was enough to make him almost laugh out loud. Just as Derek was about to give up and turn back for him, a sound reached his ears that made him stop dead in his tracks. At first it was soft, hardly even noticeable. But, after a few moments, it was became clear that someone was playing a guitar. Derek was sure it was for the sole purpose to get someone’s attention. Well, it was that soul’s lucky day. Quickly, Derek walked to the door where the noise was coming from. He grabbed the bobby pins he had snuck from his twin sister before he left home for this exact occasion, picking the lock and swinging the door open. Grinning at the boy who stood on the other side, he said coolly, “Hey man, what’s up?”Tagged: OstrichWord count: 423 Wearing: thisNotes: Sorry too lazy to create a posting template for Derek, I'll have one ready for the next post XD

Cameron was still tuning his guitar when he heard the scratching on the door; the lock creaking. For a split second, he gulped...fear growing in him. He'd heard rumors of what roamed at night...maybe he should've followed the ru- "Hello, earth to Cameron, we NEVER follow the rules!" He stood poised, ready for whatever came through that door. When it swung open though, it was just another boy standing there who had picked the lock. He chuckled. "I take it they don't lock you up like they do me? Wanna jail break?" He didn't wait for an answer as he grabbed the guitar and slung it over his back, throwing drum sticks to the boy in the doorway. "We gotta be quiet, the teacher's room is across the hall. At least for a few minutes." He smirked as he brushed past the other boy, then looked over his shoulder at him. "Lock it back, then lets get something to eat, I'm starving." He headed down the hallway, figuring the boy had found his way here, he probably knew his way around the entire school. He made his way toward the kitchen, waiting for him in the hallway outside the dorms. He hadn't even bothered to introduce himself, which was probably a mistake, but oh well. The other boy would catch up shortly and they'd be able to talk now that they were out of the quiet area.

As he shoved the bobby pin back into his pocket, Derek couldn’t help but smirk at the boy’s initial startled expression, but didn’t say anything about it. First, Derek really couldn’t blame him. He was sure that while he wanted to get some kind of attention, someone breaking into his dorm room wasn’t exactly what he had in mind. Secondly, and more importantly, if he was going to be stuck in this hell hole, he might as well make some friends, and a kid who played his guitar at full volume after what appeared to be quiet hours was exactly the kind of friend he wanted to make. Derek grinned at the boy’s comment, replying, “Not like this, I thought I had it bad. Let’s make a break for it.”Derek’s years spent playing football was obvious when he caught the drum sticks the boy threw at him, although he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do with them. Sure, he liked to listen to music, what teen didn’t? He’d never had any desire to play an instrument. However, it appeared like he was about to learn. He nodded silently, then followed the boy out of his dorm room. He fished the bobby pin out again, quickly returned the door to the locked position, then silently jogged to where the boy was standing. Derek raised an eyebrow and said in hushed tones, “Now that you’re out, why settle for cafeteria food?” There was a mischievous glimmer in his eye as he spoke. He was pretty sure the boy would be breaking all sorts of rules stepping off campus. And even though he wasn’t the one committing any crime, besides sneaking out of Austin’s apartment of course, the mere thought of evading trouble brought a smile to his face. And, since the boy mentioned it, Derek was kind of hungry, and he wouldn’t have minded a good burger. Tagged: OstrichWord count: 318 Notes: XD

He smirked when the boy said something about the cafeteria food, and he couldn’t help but just keep the sly smile on his facade. It wasn’t about the food really, and he was certainly used to it by now-though the boy did have a point. ”You’ll just have to see.” He motioned for the other boy to follow, hurrying along a little and checking aroundvto make sure that they weren’t spotted. He paused as he thought he heard something, but when silence was all the met him he continued on. ”I’m Cameron by the way. What’re you in for?” He laughed lightly as he sounded like they were in prison, but sometimes it felt that way.

Derek grinned at the boy’s response. When he had snuck out, this definitely wasn’t what he had in mind for how the night was going to go down, but he definitely wasn’t going to complain. It was entertaining at the very least, and it appeared that he had made his first friend. Derek was sure that Austin was not going to be pleased with his choice of company, which made the friendship that much more appealing. Derek was sure to keep up with the boy as they rounded hallways, following his cues as they did so. As much as Derek was ready to cause a little trouble, the last thing he needed was the school to call his brother while he was at work, before he had technically even started. Derek almost rolled his eyes just thinking about it, knowing that Austin would lecture him for hours and hours. Derek smirked at the boy’s introduction, happy to put a name to the face. He responded, “I’m Derek. I got kicked out of my school for fighting, so my mom sent me here to live with my perfect half-brother.” That time he did roll his eyes, forming air quotes as he spoke the last two words. He still couldn’t believe his circumstances. What did his mom expect, he would pick up some of Austin’s good habits? Joke was on her, though, because he was going to do everything in his power to remain the complete opposite of the detective. Turning to look at Cameron as they walked, he asked, “What about you?”Tagged: OstrichWord Count: 261 Notes: XD

Cameron smirked at the guy's response, they could get along really well. Hell, he might even have a bit of a friend. That would be something new for Cameron, at least here. He was the life of the party, but he never really had anyone to talk to. Here they had stricter, and weirder rules and schedules, so it was hard to even get kicked out of the place. It made it impossible to get anything done destructively, especially with them having locked the damn door on him. He smirked as the guy described what he had done though. Perhaps Derek could be his wing man, and deal with the tougher guys. Cameron was far more a lover than a fighter. "I was failing classes, but I didn't get kicked out persay. My parents just found out about my party style and it was either straighten up or boarding school because they didn't wanna deal with me. I'm an only child, but supposedly I have some sort of cousin I've never met that goes here too." He rolled his eyes; he didn't want to even think about the girl that he was supposed to 'watch out for' without even so much as a name. They more or less only told her that he'd know her when he saw her. Which, was a hell of a description for a kid. Getting to the cafeteria, he looked to Derek again with a wide smirk on his face. "Work your magic, twinkle fingers."

By the look of Cameron’s smirk, it looked like Derek had earned some respect. Despite being shipped off to the island, Derek still didn’t regret what he had done. The guy he had knocked out had been making fun of him because Derek’s dad was in prison, so Derek made sure that he had the last laugh. The jerk had it coming, and if he had to do it all over again, he wouldn’t change a damn thing. As they walked down the hallways, Derek listened to Cameron’s story. Derek rolled his eyes in sympathy, telling him, “Parents are the worst aren’t they?” Without waiting for a reply, Derek continued, “Is this place as bad as it seems?” Derek thought he knew the answer. He had found Cameron locked in his room, which was a pretty good indication of what was to come. Still, Derek had a little glimmer of hope that maybe things just seemed pretty bad. He would never admit it to anyone, but it was nice moving away from home and all the drama that surrounded his family. A small part of him hoped that this was going to be a fresh start. Derek just didn’t want to turn into some snobby prep school kind in the process. Before long, the pair arrived at a locked door. Derek laughed a little before saying, “With pleasure.” Reaching into his back pocket for the third time that night, he pulled out the bobby pins and began working on the lock. It was a little more challenging than the dorm room one, probably because it was an industrial lock. A few moments later, a soft but satisfying click could be heard. Shoving the bobby pins back into his pocket, Derek gestured to Cameron while saying, “Lead the way!”Tagged: OstrichWord count: 298 Notes: XD

“Nah, it’s really not too bad. They just get scared with us being up against the woods like we’re gonna have some Harry Potter shit come at us or get eaten by wolves. They only locked me in there for my ‘own protection’.” He laughed heartily at the statement though, it all sounded like horse shit. He looked to the other boy (cause I’m spacing on his damn name ) and got a glint in his eye as he dropped his voice to a whisper. “There’s rumors about a panther that roams around campus, and someone even said something about a dragon.” His laugh rolled through the cafeteria as the doors swung open, causing him to laugh even harder but clamp his hand over his mouth to try to lessen the sound. The last thing they needed to do was to get caught before the fun began. He calmed himself and looked to his comrade, before marching into the dark cafeteria. Past the tables, past the lines, and into the kitchen. There weren’t any windows...so he stood slightly dumbfounded. “Where do you think they’d keep the pots?”

Derek couldn’t help but laugh and roll his eyes at Cameron’s comment about beasts in the woods. It sounded like the type of stuff you told the new kids to scare them. He was sure it worked on the little seventh graders who were just starting, but at 17 years old, he wasn’t going to fall for those tricks. He couldn’t help but snort when Cameron mentioned panthers and dragons. Grinning, he kept his voice low, not wanting to wake anyone up who would ruin their fun, and said, “I’ll make sure to keep my eyes peeled for such beasts.” Derek quietly followed Cameron through the double doors into the cafeteria and then into the kitchen. He tried to be nonchalant about it, but he hated not knowing where he was going and being forced to rely on someone else. The kitchen was almost identical to every single school kitchen he’d ever seen – stainless steel appliances and counters, ghastly white lights that made everyone look pale, and white tiled floor that seemed to just absorb stains, no matter how hard you scrubbed. Looking around, he saw that there were cabinets throughout the kitchen. Opening up the one that was closet, he found that it contained large bags of flour, sugar, and other baking ingredients. Smirking at Cameron, Derek turned to the next one and said over his shoulder, “It’s gotta be in one these.” Tagged: OstrichWord count: 234 Notes: Sorry it's a little short!

He was amazed that their eyes adjusted so quickly to the darkness, with only minimal light streaming in from the cafeteria room. He jumped slightly as Derek caused the flour to fall from the cabinet, and his smirk only widened. "Grab one of those..." He laughed a mischievous laugh and then went to the next cupboard, throwing the doors open after messing some with the lock. He frowned when he saw it was only full of non perishable foods, they had no need for all of that. Throwing open the last cupboard though, he couldn't help but beam. Along the bottom were several very large sauce pans, and on the top were the stirring utensils. He grabbed the two sauce pans, grabbing the two longest spoons and plopping them into the pan. He thought about tossing the other pan to Derek, but thought better of it - if they didn't make the catch it would create too much noise as it clattered to the ground. "Alright ol' boy, time to go make some music." He handed him the pan and then darted out the door of the cafeteria, going out a different way then they had come in- into the court yard. Finding a bench near the middle, so all the dorms would be within ear shot, he set his pan on the ground near it and waited for Derek to catch up.
