Student Handbook
The purpose of this handbook is to help answer questions you may have regarding the policies of Quasar Academy . The information contained in the handbook provides an overview of the rules and regulations. Please use it not only as a reference, but a rulebook, at all times.
Student Rights
The student is entitled to basic human rights of food, shelter, and clothing. All three of which are provided by the academy. Students may bring their own clothing or it will be provided for them by the academy.The student is entitled to treatment for due or undue mental, physical, and emotional issues, as well as general ailments. All of which are taken to Candlelight Hospital, where they will be taken care of promptly
Visitation rights, field trips and holiday leave are privileges and can be suspended by the headmaster within reason.
Basic Code of Conduct
Students will respect ALL staff, at all times. Students shall not instigate, participate in, or encourage aggressive behavior.Students shall not ridicule, belittle, mock or harass fellow students.
Students shall not handle, carry, make, discuss the manufacture of, or withhold knowledge of fellow students handling, carrying, making, or discussing the manufacturing of weapons of any type on school premises.
Dress Code
To ensure adequate coverage of the body at school and school activities, the following articles of clothing are not permitted:• See-through garments
• Backless or strapless dresses or tops, including halter-tops or any tops that expose cleavage
• Bare-midriff tops. (Tops and bottoms must touch when student is standing.)
• Shorts, skirts, pants, and tops that fail to conceal undergarments when the student is standing or sitting.
• Shorts, skirts, or dresses that are shorter than finger-length when arms are held at sides, or that expose undergarments when standing or sitting.
• Clothing that is tight or revealing (For example, no tight mini-skirts)
• Face or body piercings that are distracting
Clothing, accessories, and jewelry shall be free of writing, pictures, symbols, or any other insignia that are crude, vulgar, profane, obscene, libelous, slanderous, gang related or sexually suggestive. Clothing, accessories, or jewelry that degrade any cultural, religious or ethnic values, that advocate racial, ethnic, or religious prejudice or discrimination, or that promote sex, the use of tobacco, drugs, or alcohol or any unlawful acts are prohibited.
Hats, caps, and other head coverings shall not be worn during classroom sessions.
Dark glasses shall not be worn indoors, except for valid medical reasons authorized by a certified physician.
Tattoos on any part of the body must be covered if they are gang-related or violate any of the provisions of this dress code.
Sleepwear or slippers may only be worn in the dormitories and must adhere to the dress code.
Excessive sagging or baggy pants are not to be worn. Undergarments may not be exposed.
In Class Conduct
Students will arrive for each class in a prompt, organized and timely manner. Students will have all of the books, supplies, and assignments necessary for class on their person before class starts. Students will be dressed appropriately for class, and will take their seats, ready to begin their lesson before the bell rings to signal class is in session.
Students who are not in their seats when the bell rings will be marked as tardy.
Students will not speak when the teacher is talking. If a student has a question or a contribution to add, the student will raise their hand and wait to be called upon. Students shall not make disruptive comments, derogatory remarks or make any offensive gestures once called upon.
Students will respect their teachers and fellow students at all times in the classroom. Students are expected to follow any instructions their teachers give them without question, unless the question pertains specifically to clarifying those instructions.
Students may not speak with one another, copy another work or compare notes without explicit permission or instruction from the teacher.
ON SCHOOL GROUNDS CONDUCT
Students caught defacing school property will be punished to the maximum extent. This includes flower beds, gardens and the lawns.Students may not enter the woods without adult supervision, or expressed permissions to ride trails.
Students may not leave the group if their class is taking place on the grounds, without permission from their teacher.
OFF SCHOOL GROUNDS CONDUCT
There is to be no yelling, cursing, lewd behavior or outbursts when on trips. If you do break the high standards of conduct when on outings, not only will you earn yourself disciplinary action but also the shortening of the trip for your peers.TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES
All textbooks are property of the academy. Defacement of school property is a punishable offense. Books are assigned to students at the beginning of term and the book's serial number is written in the student's file. When the book is returned at the end of the year, the student can and will be held responsible for any damages that exceed normal wear and tear.Students are responsible for reporting lost or stolen textbooks to the Administration Office immediately. You will receive replacement books after a general investigation of the situation.
Every student will speak to their instructors at the beginning of elective class periods regarding the use of any tools, supplies or paraphernalia specific to that elective. Students may use these tools, supplies or paraphernalia only with the instructor's permission and must sign their name on the Supply Log to check out the tools, supplies or paraphernalia, and must return the tools before signing them back in. The student is responsible for anything checked out in his or her name. DO NOT let other students use anything checked out in your name. If you have misplaced something checked out in your name or suspect someone stole it from you, it is your responsibility to alert the instructor at once. Any tool, supply or paraphernalia not returned or reported missing by the end of the class period will be considered stolen property and is punishable by the maximum disciplinary action.
MEAL TIMES
The following common courtesies are expected of our students during meal times:• Moving ahead of others in the lunch line is unacceptable.
• Loud talking and noises are not appropriate behavior.
• All trash/trays in your area must be disposed of properly.
• At the discretion of the cafeteria duty teacher, students may eat in the Courtyard during their lunch periods.
• Students are not permitted in unauthorized areas. Failure to obey these rules may result in disciplinary actions.
• Students are permitted to leave the grounds and go into Firefly Falls in order to eat lunch, but must return promptly before their lunch period ends.
GROUNDS POLICY
All free hours are noted in the personal schedules. Free hours may be spent at the student's discretion so long as none of the academy's rules are broken. Students may spend free hours in common areas, within the stables, outdoors in approved areas, or off campus for work periods. Students on a free period may not be a nuisance or disruption to students or staff members who are in class or working. Meal hours are not considered free periods. No student may leave their dorm after lights out. No student should be on the grounds after dark without written consent.When on the grounds, you are expected to uphold the high standards of conduct that can be found within the campus walls. You are responsible for replacing divots, returning equipment and abstaining from lewd, aggressive, or any unacceptable behavior
School Events
The types of school events may include but are not limited to dances, sports events or competitions.These are a few general rules that must be followed for any school events:
•Events are not mandatory.
•Students may not leave the event and return save for going to the restrooms.
•No loitering in the halls will be allowed.
•Any behavior deemed inappropriate (i.e. sexually explicit dancing, heckling other teams, etc) will result in removal from the event and possible banning from future events.
