Athena sighed as she finally came to a halt under a tree, dropping her head as she calmly started to eat some grass, she felt soaked all the way down to her bones, between swimming through the sea after the ship wrecked, and than making her way through the current stop, the torrential downpour soaking her through and through. She couldn't help but shiver as she felt freezing cold. This was a strange new world for her, and on top of that, she had lost her brother. Athena knew he was alive, she could sense it within her mind, she just didn't know where exactly he was.
Standing under the tree, her coat looked almost black from being soaked. She needed to find a place dryer than under this tree, and with lightning about, it wasn't exactly the best idea to have, but it was the fastest route to being out of the rain for the moment. Shaking her entire body to try and rid of some of the cold, Athena shivered again.
SHe raised her head as she glanced around, she knew her vision had given her a large field that smelled exactly like this place, so she knew she was in the right area. She just didn't fully know why she needed to be here.

He had not traveled these parts in many many moons; not since he had lost his son and taken the fillies all to his own. But after meeting Anahel and her horse...what was her horse's name again? He was so wrapped up in Anahel that he had forgotten to remember. Laylah. Laylah was the horse's name. He missed the bond he had shared with horses; the ability to race them, the ability to run free with them. They did not seem to judge him as harshly as humans did; they accepted that he was different and in some respects reveled in it; because he could not only be a part of their herd but also command them in ways a regular stallion might not be able to. And so, when Anahel had left him once more to go into town...he thought it best to travel a little deeper into the wilderness, to at least get a peak at what remained of the wild horse herds. Still in his vest, he moved swiftly between the trees toward the lands. He could smell the most mares in heat there; remnants perhaps of long ago, but none the less, he would not be greeted with a challenge as he smelled less stallion's amongst the smells. He really did not want to explain to Anahel why he had a hoof print shaped bruise on his chest and a broken rib or two. He only intended to watch, to mingle a little perhaps. He closed his eyes and drew in a breath; he could smell the salty air radiating from the smell of a mare. Something drew him closer to it, some will to see beyond just the horizon. He knew he would not be met at first with kindness, most likely. Many creatures did not know how to take him at first. And so he stayed back a ways as he finally laid his eyes upon her, a pretty little paint mare the likes he had only seen once in his lifetime. His heart seemed to leap into his throat...could it be? Could it be a descendant of that one mare that had made him almost stay? The defiant little filly he had never known her name, only ever called her Temptress? But no, as the fae lifted her head, scenting the area, she had an entirely different body structure. Her coloration was similar, her rump, however perfect it was, was similar...but she was built differently. More full, than the scrawny little fae he had known in these parts. His horse speech was rusty, but he would try none the less. Slowly he approached; four hooves hitting the ground in a steady pace but the sounds they made perhaps a little different to the wary ear because of his weight distribution. A soft whinny escaped him as he approached, seeing the cold shiver that came through her body. He quickened his pace as his hands worked, unbuttoning the one button on his vest as he came up beside her and laid it upon her shoulders. It was of course not enough to cover her; but perhaps it might prevent as much heat as was being stolen from her escaping her body. As he spoke, it was gentle and melodic; trying his best to structure his horse speech properly. "What sorrow ails you, ..." His voice paused, almost calling her angel. He already had his angel though, she was getting them supplies in town. "precious?" It was the only word that would come to mind in horse speech that he remembered well enough to say; otherwise he could very badly damage the encounter by calling her a turnip or a doughnut.

Athena shook herself some more, flicking off as much water as she could. She carried herself in a bit of a strange way as her head wasn't up and alert like most wild horses. She was calm and relaxed and held her head at a comfortable spot level with her back, her right hind leg cocked as she rested it on the ground. She nibbled at some of the grass, her ears flicking in different directions before flicking backwards. She had heard a sound and raised her head before feeling something being placed on her back. It was warm and a content sigh left her as she reveled in the warmth of whatever was placed on her back. She seemed quite calm for somoene who just had something strange and unknown placed on her back but as she raised her head she turned to look at the Centaur standing next to her.
"Thank you, kind sir." She was quite grateful for the help of this... well she wasn't fully sure as to what he was, but he had given her kindness and in such she would return him with such. Her ears flicked around as she listened to his question, a bit of a sad look coming over her face as she glanced in the direction she had come from. "I was shipwrecked here... where ever this place is... and I seem to have been separated from my brother." Her voice was soft as she turned her muzzle to face him, having to shift how she was standing so that she didn't strain her neck trying to look up at him.
"I'm grateful for the kindness you have shown me.. who are you?" She was curious as could be in wanting to know who this man was, was he even a man? She wasn't really sure, part of his body looked like that of a horse, while other part of him looked human. She had never seen anything like it before, and yet she wasn't afraid of him.

He was both relived a a little surprised by her reaction to him; she did not seem to care that he was a half breed of some sort, though she did have a look of confusion on her face. A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. She was gentle, much like he remembered the mare to be. She had been strong willed, but she had been gentle in all respects. It only made him want to know this mare more. He reached down and brushed a strand of her mane back behind her ear that had been shaken loose by when she had shaken her body to release more of the water. She asked him who he was, and he couldn't help but laugh. Judging by the look in her eyes, it was more a question of what he was, then who he was. "Ay, fair maiden. I am neither human or horse, but a little of both. I am known as Harlan Borias Ares; though most now call me Ares." He glanced toward where her sorrow filled eyes had looked when she spoke of the shipwreck and her brother. His heart went out to her, and he figured Anahel and him might be able to help find her brother, or at least send Layla out to scout and help with the process. "The island is a strange one, that is for sure. Firefly Falls is the name of the town, I believe the island shares the same name." He had never learned the name of the island to be anything else, though he had not ever paid much attention to it either. He gave a small shrug of the shoulders. "And what of you, fair maiden? What shall I call thee?"

The look of what seemed to be relief as well as surprise did not slip past the Grulla mare's watchful eyes as she gave him her full attention. Her ear twitched a bit as he brushed back a part of her mane that had flopped out of place when she'd shaken off the water. Hearing the rain continuing to come down outside of the cover, she couldn't help but want to find someplace drier. After fighting the waves in the sea, the shipwreck and feeling as if she had barely made it ashore, she couldn't help but feel completely exhausted, simply pushed forward because of a vision she had, which had only drained her more.
She wasn't even sure what was allowing her to stay on her own hooves. Hearing Ares talk, she mentally shook herself before paying attention to him again and listening to him talk. She took in all of his words, hearing him as what he shall call her. She was pleasant as she bowed slightly towards him.
"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ares, I am Athena. I thank you again, for the kindness you have shown me, I cannot say I was expecting as much upon my untimely arrival."

He ran a hand through his hair and looked over the fae, he could see how wet she was. He could see how tired she was. He didn't know what she had been through, or even what her brother was like that she had lost. From the exhaustion on her face, she couldn't tell much of anything. He didn't know how to comfort her about her brother; it had been so long since he'd have family besides Anahel...If she was getting back, she would be worried. He eyed her as he spoke, seeing how barely awake she was. She needed rest, at the very least. The only moment that there was a question on his face was when she spoke of her name. Athena? As in...no, it couldn't be. Not the goddess that his father had spoken ill of all those years ago. She was too beautiful for that, she was too perfect for that. Wise yes, but there didn't seem an ill bone in her body. He smiled to her, but he could see how weak the fae was. He lowered himself to his knees, and then to his haunches. "My lady, you must be tired from all this wet, come, I will carry you elsewhere. All you need do is walk on your back hooves." He glanced up to her and smiled, waving his two hands toward his back so that she might step over him and he would haul her to a better place, a more comfortable place. "Once you have rested, we can go search for your brother."

Athena was still standing quietly as she listened to the sounds of the wind surge, feeling the strong breeze blow under the tree. The storm should be almost over, but she couldn't tell in the strength of the winds now as she turned her head from the wind as it blew her mane all on one side, making her forelock flip behind her ear as she tried to listen to Are's word. It helped when he kneeled on the ground and motioned for her to get on his back.
She was grateful for his help as she carefully rested herself on her back in a way that she could help walk with her hind legs. Her head resting down against his withers as she let out a long sigh, knowing the moment she got the chance, she would probably be getting some rest.
"I cannot say how much I appreciate your help, Ares, I'm very grateful. I'm sure my Brother is alright, and it might be best to wait out this storm before trying to search for anyone..."

He had lived here for hundreds of moons now, he knew every rock and blade of grass that covered the land; even with the storm bending it. He had seen the island nearly ravaged, he had been here before the people came. He was a loner, and always would be-but that didn't mean that every bone in his body had to be cruel. Somewhere deep down, which Anahel had found, was a heart. He couldn't leave this mare to be abused by the elements, or by whatever bastard stallion might come along and force her into his herd. He worried for her, even in the short time that he had met her and knelt down now before her...if she was so trusting, what is to say she wouldn't have trusted the wrong person? What's to say...he wasn't the wrong person? He frowned, but hoped she did not see it. Once she had draped herself over him, he stood. He reached behind her and with the strength of neither just a horse or of a weightbuilder, he held her just behind her shoulders onto his back as he moved forward, one step at a time as he adjusted to the weight. Besides Anahel, it had been a while since he had carried anything on his back.
He moved swiftly but carefully, away from the grasslands and toward the forest. There was a thicket of trees he would take her to, where they would be hidden from the elements quite nicely without being at risk for attracting lightning by standing under a tall tree. It would be dark in there, but perhaps he could make them a small fire to warm the mare, if he could find enough dry kindling. "Do you know much of your namesake, Lady Athena?' He was curious what stories had been told and passed down about the goddess that he had an inside look at to her demented and twisted ways.

Athena walked as best she could on her hind legs as he carried her, resting her head gently on his back as she watched the scenery around her She was grateful for his help and while others might thing she was crazy to accept his help so easily, she knew she was safe because of her visions. She watched as a thicket of trees started to come into view, her blackish grey ears pricking forward as she looked up a bit, curious really as to where he was going.
She did notice she was no longer in the path of the rain, which was a much welcomed change as she was ready to warm up, knowing if she stayed drenched for too long she could get sick. Though it did start to grow darker and she couldn't help but wonder if they were going into a cave.
As she heard Ares ask her a question she seemed to think for a few moments. "I know there are many stories about the goddess Athena, she was born of Zeus from his forehead as he swallowed her mother, though her personality it what always seemed to change.. I've heard some call her slow to anger and one who fights for just reasons. While others simply called her corrupted and no longer fit to be in Olympus." She shook her head a bit, flinging water from her ears as she continued. "My mother, Aphrodite.. named me because of her wisdom though. Many females in my family's line are known to have visions... oracles as some might call us..."

For as heavy a load as she was, he still walked lightly and quickly, into the thicket with only a few strides. It was a little dark with the storm clouds above, but they could still see each other's faces plainly. He knelt down as he listened to her answer his question, getting down onto his knees and haunches so that she could easily get down. He let his hands fall to his sides, and he shook his head as a dog might to shake the water free. He had never personally met Athena, so he could not say whether the stories were true or not...but he had heard far different stories from his father. He wouldn't push the matter though. She'd already been through significant trauma and lost her brother, he didn't need to get angry and upset her over her namesake. "Ay, she was supposed to be the goddess of wisdom so that was a good choice." He shivered slightly as he stood there, partly from the shock of kneeling after carrying the weight and partly just because his human skin was overly sensitive to the cold. "Ay, a soothsayer is what I remember them being called. They've had many names through the centuries I would imagine..." As she got off of him, he stood to his full height again. "Would a fire be welcome, to warm you?"

Athena had kept up with Ares somewhat easily before he knelt down and allowed her to stand on her own, which she did for a bit before sighing deeply as she settled on the driest area she could find. She noticed that he was shivering and cocked her head slightly as she watched him. "A fire seems to be what we both need... Is there anything I can do to help?" She had been thinking about the different soothsayers and oracles. Before speaking softly.
"The line of soothsayers, or Oracles as my family called them has been in our blood for almost fifteen generations... It only pertains to the females as well, though we don't know why.

He smiled to her as she spoke, telling him of her lineage as he nodded to her request of the fire. She was a beautiful and darling mare that he hoped he could help, and at least keep her safe until she found somewhere else to go. While he felt deeply connected to Anahel, the mare and him shared a common ancestor, or at least common history, that he had not found in many many moons. He had to at least make sure the mare was protected until she could be protected by someone else. He left the small thicket, looking for whatever dry logs he could and leaving the mare for a few moments with her thoughts, him lost in his own. If the mare decided to join him for now, would Anahel be angry with him? Would she find it disgusting that he was beginning to harbor feelings of friendship or want of the mare with the common history? It did not make him desire Anahel any less...but there was only so much of him that she could take, and he had to be gentle with her human body. He shook his crown-now was not the time to be thinking of such things. Finding what he needed, he made his way back inside the thicket, whistling gently so she knew that it was him approaching. He piled the twigs and logs he had found in the center on a dry patch, and began rubbing a stick between his hands to start a spark and set the fire going. He looked across the cave to here. "Come next to me, we can keep each other warm." His attention turned back to starting the fire, but he continued to speak. "My form; that of a centaur, is of the same respect-generally there are only male centaurs. My mother was the only female centaur ever to have existed in recorded history, and it was only by the grace of Aphrodite. May their souls all rest in peace." He would not bore her with the explanation of his immortality, or the fact that he was technically a demi-god. If there had been fire around already, perhaps he could harness it to start the fire...but just as he was growing frustrated with it, the spark occured. Willing his powers to surface, the spark made the fire roar into life fully.

Athena had been trying her best to rest lightly while Ares had left to go find dry wood for a fire. Hearing a whistle though, her ears perked in the direction as she opened her eyes to look in his direction, welcoming him back. Hearing him mention for her to come next to him so they could keep each other warm, she nodded. Taking a few moments to pull herself back onto her tired feet, dropping down next to him with a soft sigh, glad for the extra warmth as she watched him work on starting a fire for them. Her ears flicked in his direction as she settled down, listening to him mention about how his form, a centaur was how her family’s lineage of soothsayers worked. She found it interesting though how different lineages of certain traits seemed to affect or cause certain genders to be born. It was strange in how things worked out, but she had a feeling the gods had a hand in that and while they worked in strange ways, it always seemed to be for a reason. She did drop her head down, her eyes closing as she felt the weariness of battling the waves from earlier start to creep up on her. She heard the start of the fire and felt it’s warmth as she sighed in relief, enjoying said warmth while grabbing whatever rest that she could. “I apologize… it’s been…. A long da--…” She knew she was tired, and even though she enjoyed the conversation, she was certainly feeling sleep catch up to her. Ostrich

“It’s fine ,sleep my lady ,I will keep watch.” He was lost in his thoughts after that, gazing to the mare but a moment before he looked out toward the terrain. He had seen the world ravaged by so much, and yet it was still the most peaceful place he had ever known. Time seemed not to change this place for anything. The dew still collected on the trees in the same fashion, the grass still smelled the same as before. The only thing that had changed was the people. Now he had to hide, now he has to pretend he didn’t exist and was a figment of people’s imagination. Except for this mare here and Annahel, they seemed to accept him for what he was and ask no more of him. He smiled at the simplicity of it all, and thought maybe...just maybe things were changing for the better. Differences were no longer such a feat to conquer. At least in this frame of existence, it seemed.

Athena slept peacefully curled up against the large centaur. She found that the fire had warmed her and by the time the sun poked through the leaves, she was waking up. The world looked different now that the storm seemed to be over. She glanced to see if Ares was still there before pulling herself back up to her feet. She felt quite a bit better now that she had rested. She headed out to where there was some grass, lowering her muzzle close to see if it smelled fine before starting to eat.
She continued to do this, eventually making her way out under the sun, pulling up a bit more of the grass before glancing around and smelling that sweet smell of grass after a rainstorm. She found a decent spot before lowering herself to the ground and rolling in the sweet grass for a few short moments before finally getting up and shaking herself off, her coat a bit wet from the wet grass and mud puddles.

Ares had not realized how much carrying the mare across the lands had taken out of him. He was strong, and it was no hard feat for him to do-but it was not something his muscles were accustomed to. In this lack of respect for his own body, he had dozed off sometime in the night. The crackling of the fire and the pink of his lids, the small rustle of Athena standing is what woke him...and instantly he regretted his decision of the former night. His muscles did not ache perhaps as much as he should, but he was ashamed that he had dozed off, he was ashamed that he had not been able to watch the night. What if someone had come in the middle of the night, and captured Athena? What if something had come in the night to simply try and eat her? These were parts unknown to him, and he had a weaker sense of smell than a horse would. It was possible that they were in a bear's cave, or something even more sinister. As he watched Athena walking out, he thanked his father that she was safe; even if he was not really up there to pray to or listen to prayers anymore. His thoughts, as she seemed to be managing on her own for the moment, went to Anahel. Would she have noticed he was gone the night, and have been worried? Or would she have gone in search of some other warmth? Anger boiled within him at the thought of the fire demon she spoke of...if she could have someone she thought about constantly other than himself, why couldn't he? But, he swallowed that down. A mare like Athena was not a trophy to show around. She deserved someone, something more than that, not to mention she was worried about her brother. He stretched his human arms out and he yawned, before raising on his hooves and stretching. He stretched his torso tall once he was out of the cave, looking to Athena with a hearty laugh as she stood up from the roll. While he did not roll much in the mud, he was not above a little romping, and like a silly colt he rushed over and skidded to a sudden stop in the puddle, spraying the mud out across the pair of them. He looked innocently to her as he flicked his hair back on his human head and just looked to her with mischief in his eyes-awaiting her retort.
