Police Station
The description of the Police jobs are taken directly from the Los Angeles Sworn Police Officer Class Titles and Job Descriptions , located here, with some minor tweaking because we are obviously a much smaller town than Los Angeles (but I figured we want to be accurate!)
Police Chief
The Police Chief is the second highest rank in the Police Department and reports directly to the Chief of Police. The Deputy Chief can be promoted from the rank of Captain or Commander. Since the island of Firefly Falls is so small, the Police Chief on Firefly Falls is the highest ranking officer who reports back to the mainland Chief of Police.
The Deputy Chief is assigned as the commanding officer of major organizational components such as Geographic Operations Bureaus, Detective Bureaus, Human Resources Bureau, Internal Affairs Group, or as the Chief of Staff. In addition to carrying out specific bureau duties, the Deputy Chief may assume the duties of the Chief of Police in his absence and perform related functions in that capacity.
Captain
The captain is generally the police chief's right hand man. He may be assigned a case if there is not available man power. He is more the public face of the department and social relations. The captain is responsible for inspecting and overseeing the functions of the patrol officers and detectives to ensure compliance with the Department policies, procedures, regulations and standards; supervising the administrative and support functions of non-sworn personnel; inspecting personnel, facilities, and tactics for safety and/or training needs; maintaining liaison with numerous municipal, government, civic organizations, and private citizens to establish and maintain rapport to facilitate Department’s functions and to promote neighborhood safety and community policing programs.
Lieutenants
The Police Lieutenant rank within the Police Department is assigned as Officer-in-Charge of various law enforcement and administrative functions. The Lieutenant II may assist detective divisions commanding officers or act as Section Officers-in-Charge of various specialized entities throughout the Department. The Lieutenant assigned to patrol and detective divisions is responsible for supervising patrol sergeants, police officers and detectives who carry out day-to-day, routine crime suppression and investigative functions. They are responsible for making sure that there is proper officer coverage according to crime trends in their area, and will respond to high profile crime scenes. Lieutenants perform administrative functions such as review of the incoming correspondence and response to Department entities inside and out. They are responsible for making sure that everyone is properly trained and attend community events.
Violet Ryan Fuller
Favorite Activity: Stripping (oddly enough)
Education: Graduated Top of her class from the Police Academy
Pets/Family: Bacardi (dog)
She is currently working undercover at Hot Tamale's Gentleman Club.
Sergeants
The class title of Police Sergeant within the Police Department is assigned to geographic patrol divisions, specialized divisions and administrative units of these divisions. The class title of Sergeant is broken down into two ranks: Sergeant I and II, and the Sergeant II rank performs a higher and more complex level of duties. When assigned to a patrol function, the Sergeant may be a Watch Commander or Assistant Watch Commander during his/her tour of duty. In this capacity, the Sergeant prepares daily car plan assignments; prepares and presents roll call training; inspects personnel and equipment for conformity to Department standards; supervises the desk, patrol officers on foot or in vehicles; reviews and approves various types of reports; prepares and investigates personnel complaints; responds to crime scenes at the request of police officers; handles radio calls and dispatches personnel; keeps the supervisors informed of issues of concern to them; trains and supervises probationary officers; and performs related functions.
Detectives
The class title of a Police Detective within the Police Department is assigned to specialized functions of criminal investigations. At present, there are three Detective ranks within the Police Department: Detective I, II and III. The Detective II and III are supervisory positions and are responsible for training and overseeing the activities of Detectives I and Police Officers. A Detective is often assigned to a specialized division and is responsible for responding to the scenes of crimes, conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations, preparing the required investigative reports, preparing a biopsy of the report, apprehending the suspect, preparing the case for a successful prosecution, and testifying in court. On occasion, a Detective travels to other parts of the country or overseas to extradite suspects wanted in connection with crimes committed on the island of Firefly Falls. In this capacity, a Detective maintains liaison with international law enforcement agencies.
Austin Scott Clark
Police Detective
Favorite Activity: Anything that puts him outside
Education: High school degree, finished first in his class at the police academy
Pets/Family: Irish Cream, Ivy
Police Officers
Police Officers comprise the largest number of sworn officers in the Department. The Police Officer rank is divided into three paygrade advancement ranks: Police Officer I, II and III. A Police Officer I is a probationary officer who automatically advances to Police Officer II upon successful completion of his/her probationary period. A Police Officer may be assigned to a foot beat, a black and white patrol car, bicycle patrol, Mounted Unit, a two-wheel motorcycle or a specialized unit such as S.W.A.T. or K-9 Unit. Normally, when a police recruit graduates from the Police Academy, he/she is assigned to a geographic patrol division within the City and is considered as a probationary officer and placed under the supervision of a higher ranking officer, normally a Police Officer III Field Training Officer.
Mounted Police Officers
Are responsible for all of the above duties, but are also on horseback. This may involve additional training for proper horseback riding and they may have additional duties such as riding in parades. Generally, the mounted officers are patrolling the trails and stable areas of Firefly Falls as opposed to inter-city.

Favorite Activity: Spending time with Jay, and her horses

Canine Police Officers
The canine police officers are responsible for all of the above duties, but have a canine as their partner. They generally must go through thorough training with their canine partner so that they and the canine know their exact signals for different commands.
James "Sawyer" Baker
Favorite Activity: Spending Time Outside, away from people
Education: Police Academy, Highschool Diploma
Pets/Family: Jay "Jacob" Baker (brother), Bailey (canine partner)
Cyber Crime Unit
While cyber threats are not as big an issue on the small island of Firefly Falls, it is the ideal place to set up an off the grid operation for a highly trained cyber crime unit. Somewhat off the grid and looking like the signal might be coming from the middle of the ocean (since Firefly Falls is forgotten on most maps), even if traced it throws hackers off the trail. The cyber crime unit is often outsourced to the Western sea board and Hawaii to assist on larger scale cases in which they can help with profiling, hacking into the hacker's servers, programming, and a number of other computer related tasks.
Raymond Archer Desmond
Favorite Activity: being left alone
Education: Self Taught
Pets/Family: Bayside Dream (horse)
Employees of the Fire Station
These are the employees of the fire station. Information regarding each roll is taken from the FireRescue1 website, located here.
Fire Chief
The Fire Chief is the highest ranking officer in the fire department. They are directly responsible for the efficient operation of the department and has control over all of its personnel and activities. They have say in fire safety education, fire protection, EMS, disaster preparedness, and department administration. Sometimes, they may provide technical assistance to the Mayor. They are the public face of the department.
Position Available
Fire Captain
The Fire Captain is the second highest ranking, and generally will still ride to the scene of an emergency. He is responsible for officer training and EMS training. They are responsible for taking the reports from the lower ranks and for review of personnel. They oversee the day to day operation and staffing of the station and perform most managerial tasks.
Position Available
Fire Lieutenant
Lieutenants are responsible for the emergency response of the company, including the management of resources and personnel. They will go to the scene of the accident but when they are not at the scene of the emergency they are performing a supervisory role over the company and controlling firefighter training, including EMS skills. They must possess detailed knowledge of scene operations. In the absence of a captain, they may assume the role of 'acting captain'.
Driver Engineer
The driver engineer is not only responsible for driving the fire engine to the scene of the crime, but also for maintaining the fire engine. They are responsible for knowing the vehicle frontwards, backwards, and sideways and general maintenance of the machine. If there is an issue with the equipment, they are responsible for fixing it, sometimes in a pinch if there is an issue at the scene of an incident. They must possess some managerial and leadership qualities as they may have to step up into the "acting lieutenant" position.
Firefighter
While anyone in the department is referred to as a firefighter, these are the employees who actually earn the title-the ones who fight the fire. They have hands on actions of fire suppression and search and rescue. They must be familiar with the operation of the apparatus. They may drive in the absence of the driver engineer.
Jacob Jain Baker
Firefighter
Favorite Activity: hanging out with Birdie, hanging out with his fiance Vanity
Education: Fire Academy
Pets/Family: Birdie, Vanity, Sawyer Baker
EMS
The EMS are responsible for emergency calls due to medical concerns, and typically will go with the fire truck to any wide scale fire to make sure that no one needs medical attention. They are highly skilled medical professionals who are adept in first aid and operations of the ambulance. They are sometimes forgotten when thinking of heroes; even though they are more likely the ones who saved a person's life and got them to a stable position before dropping them in the hands of a doctor. While they do not typically have medical degrees, they are the front line of medical care when it comes to emergencies.
Dual Employees
These are the employees who technically work for both the fire station and the police station.
Dispatchers
The dispatcher is responsible for taking the Emergency calls, typically answering with "911, what's your emergency?" They are kept up to date with CPR training, calming techniques, and are required to take refresher courses every year. If needed, they will stay on the phone with you until a unit arrives, either helping you to remain calm or to walk you through medical steps that could potentially be life saving.
Custodial Staff
The custodial staff is responsible for the day to day upkeep of the facilities, making sure that everything is clean and orderly. Unfortunately, they are also the ones who have to clean up the mess if any drunks are in the holding cells have mishaps.
Park Rangers
While they technically report in to the United States Park Ranger Service, they are overseen by the police/fire station in Firefly Falls and report to the Police Chief and Fire Chief directly. If there is any issues, they have the authority to act as a police officer in the event of an emergency, and hold any unsavory characters until the police arrive to take them to the holding cells.
