Raymond Nathan Desmond
Raymond didn't know what he was doing with the horse. He didn't know why he had picked it out, or what they were going to do together, or what. All he knew was he had done his job helping Liv and now he was back at the barn with the little mare who had claimed his heart. They had finally gotten back to the barn, and even he was beginning to feel a little sick in the stomach from the lurching around of the trailer; he could only imagine how the horse's felt. He helped Liv unload the other horses quickly, and now all that was left was his blind in one eye little girl Bayside. He smiled as he came back to the trailer, holding out a carrot to her as he got in it and walked toward the back of the trailer.
"See baby girl, that wasn't all so bad was it? I didn't leave you that whole time, and now we're gonna get you out of here and get some fresh air..."

The little white grey mare had pressed herself against the wall on her blind side, keeping herself there during the entire trailer ride, quivers rolling through her shoulder muscles every now and again in anxiety of where this trailer was heading. Her good eye on Archie, helping herself to relax. Once the trailer stopped, she shifted in her slot, ready to head out, nickering quietly once Archie left to help unload the others, finding that she was anxious for him to return. White Grey ears flicking towards him the moment he came back into view, the scent of a carrot lifting up to her nostrils as she pawed at the trailer floor slightly, waiting to be freed of this metal monster.
Reaching for the carrot she nickered at Archie, attempting to bump her head carefully against him. She was ready to get out into the fresh air that Archie had spoke of.

Archie smiled at the mare's response, glad that she had remained calm. He untied her and offered the carrot to her, making sure that the lead was still tight around her neck as he gave it a little tug toward the outside world. Leading her from the trailer, he brought her toward one of the round pens. It was one of the newer metal ones, so that she would be able to see out of it. He would probably need to create some sort of shelter for her on one end, or maybe he could eventually turn her out into a paddock. He wasn't entirely sure what he would do with her, to be completely honest, but as he worked around the farm he would keep her close to him. Perhaps he could train her to help him, like one could a dog. "What do you think? Is that less scary than being in one of those stalls?"

Bayside carefully and happily took the carrot from Archie's hand, bobbing her head slightly as she munched on it while following Archie from the metal contraption. In all honestly he could have no contact with the lead rope that was around her neck and she could have followed him. He'd rescued her from the scary dark barn and she was grateful for such a thing.
As Archie spoke to her, she bobbed her head, completely agreeing with his words. She nudged his side gently, as the walked towards the roundpen. Her steps shortening as she raised her head and turned it to look at the contraption with her good eye, wondering what he had in store for her.

He walked along beside her in silence for a moment. No one would have suspected how he acted toward humans right now; he appeared a gentle soul who could do no wrong to anything, much less kill anything. He had never been on the front lines of combat, mostly the computer geek in the back, but...he certainly had shot a few when the time came. It all just depended on what he needed to do.
He glanced over to Bayside as she eyed the round pen, stopping momentarily to let her have a look at it. He probably wouldn't have enjoyed the first sight of it either if he had been a horse, especially being blind in one eye like they both were. He game her a smile and a reassuring pat as he opened the round pen and led her inside, shutting the gate. Unclipping the lead from around her neck, and just stood in the round pen with her. "Want to stretch yourself out there, princess?"

Bayside was quiet as she cautiously followed Archie towards the round pen, seeming to take her time to look at it. Seeing as it wasn't really going to eat her, she continued to follow him into the metal contraption. Just as Archie was shutting the gate, was when she heard the sound of another truck pulling up. Raising her head again to attempt to look over the railing with her good eye, the young mare flared her nostrils as if to find out what was going on. Calling out to the other horses she had smelled.
Having just pulled up close to the barn, Olivia sighed as she turned off the motor before carefully climbing from the tall beast of a vehicle. She shut the door and glanced around, having heard another horse calling out, one that wasn't Shorty. Not long after though the Stallion answered back, pawing at the trailer as he squealed slightly. Olivia sighed as she went to the trailer, opening the back of it before heading to Shorty's head via his right side.
"You behave yourself now mister... we aren't here to flirt with the ladies."
SHe sighed as the stallion seemed to disagree with her and shake his head, pawing once more at the ground before allowing himself to be led out by Olivia, following her to the barn as she went to settle him into the stall first, wanting to give him a chance to take in the different scents and sounds before releasing his mass amount of energy upon the world. Besides, at the moment it looked as if one of the round pens was occupied by a mare, and that was the last thing Olivia needed to happen on their first day... was Shorty to misbehave and break a round pen trying to get to a mare...
Bayside turned to look towards Archie, nudging his chest as she pricked her ears forward. Eventually she turned and trotted around the round pen a couple of times, though she didn't quite have all that much energy as some horses, she was mostly calm as she headed back to Archie, almost as if she was looking like she wanted to play, carefully nipping at his shirt as if to 'tag' him, before prancing off to a different side of the round pen. When she stopped she would turn to look back at him, ears pricked.

Archie heard the truck, but didn't much care. He was never put on this earth to socialize with humanity; at least not anymore. He sighed heavily as he heard the hoofbeats of the horse coming closer for a moment, but then they disappeared to the barn and a calm overcame him once more. He'd rather deal with a horse any day over a person. Horses didn't talk to much and they would just listen. He didn't like listening, and so most of the time he didn't. He did what he had to and then went on to be alone, existing. It wasn't much of a life, but he could do whatever he wanted since it was his life to live.
He watched Bayside as she moved around the pen; she did at least seem a little happier here, as opposed to in the stalls. He'd have to figure out where she could go, since he wasn't going to put her in a stall. Somewhere where she could mingle with other horses, have shelter, but not be confined too much. Would they let him just pasture board her? Was that a thing? He shrugged...he'd have to check with Olivia and Preston sometime down the road. So lost in thought, he slightly forgot what he was watching and was a little surprised when she came over to tag him. It didn't help that she came up on his bad eye side, but he didn't jump or anything that may have scared her. Instead, he just laughed at his own inattention. "Oh you wanna play do you?" He said, a wide grin spreading across his face and his voice a little louder than it should have been. He knew she could easily out run him, and so he started slowly inching toward her, his hands behind his back as he looked everywhere but right at her whistling.

Bayside bobbed her head as she watched Archie, her ears pricked towards him as she playfully trotted away a few times, seeming quite in touch with the game. She'd come up from behind him on his good side, playing lipping at his shirt before trotting away again. She was definitely happier being outside and not cooped up inside all day.
After playing her little game of tag for some time she seemed to stop as she moved closer to Archie, nickering to him and nudging him gently with her head. She was starting to feel hungry and wasn't sure how that part was going to work out, she just knew that she was happy in this place...

Archie couldn't help but grin; it was probably the first time he smiled since the last time he'd blown shit up in the army, to be honest. And he was practically beaming right then, looking like the happiest man in the world. He finally had someone to connect with. Someone who understood him...in a way. He knew she was a horse, but that didn't matter. He would have been content to play a little longer, but he noticed her slowing down. Finally, she came to rest her head against his shoulder, and he smiled-running his hand along her neck. His stomach growled at that moment, and he jumped back a little. A loud laugh rang out from him as he did so, surprising himself by jumping at his own stomach growling. "I'm gonna be as bad as the dogs who scare themselves with farts pretty soon." He laughed again, looking to Bayside. The smile faded away for a moment as he reached his hand out to her muzzle. "I bet you're hungry too..." He frowned a moment, thinking...before the idea struck him. "Hold on sweetheart, I'll be right back." He backed away from her slowly, still trying to not make too sudden of moves as he got to the gate of the round pen and headed toward the barn. He scowled as he walked toward it, remembering that some yuppie had pulled into here with her horse trailer not a few minutes before and made a racket with her horse. Have some respect for the quite of the country, it was a barn after all...what, was she raised in the city? He shoved his hands into his jean pockets and kept his gaze down as he motored toward the feed room, not even bothering to glance at her and her horse as it banged against the stall. "If he breaks it, you're fixing it." He muttered under his breath, disappearing into the feed room.

Bayside watched Archie quietly, following him over the the gate, turning her head so she could see him as he walked away to the barn. She called after him a bit as she paced back and forth in front of the fence, hoping he would come back. After a few moments though she started to check out the rest of the pen as she sniffed around before lowering herself and rolling in the sand and dirt. She laid there for some time, seeming to relax in the sun, though she kept glancing back towards the barn.
Olivia was quieting down Shorty as the stallion pawed at the door a bit, scolding him just before he stopped. He almost seemed to pout as he put his head down and let Olivia continue to groom him.
She closed the door as she went to get him some hay and feed as well, hearing the muttering as she glanced at the male. "He's not going to break the damn door. Chill out. He's in a new barn after a long travel, sue me for him being hungry and wanting to stretch his legs." She grabbed the food he would need before heading back to the stallion's stall, making him back up and be patient for his food before she put the hay in the hay net and his food in his bucket. Shorty wasted no time digging into his food before seeming to calm down some.

"SO you throw him in a stall instead of letting him stretch his legs...yes, that sounds quite logical." Came the retort of the man, still not even looking to the woman. "There's no point in suing, you can't sue stupid." He laughed dryly at his comment, finding himself hilarious. He really did hate woman and think them the lesser sex, the only one commanding respect from him being the girls he knew were hardened by the farm. He went into the feed room and got the bran, mixing up some bran and throwing in a few peppermints before heading to the wash stall and turning the hot water in on it. Bayside would need a lot of tender loving care before she was able to really start getting meat on her bones again, but she might as well have a tasty first meal on the farm instead of a bland one to put weight on her. Mixing in just the right amount of water, he hurried back to the feed room to mix in some molasses and some stress-ease, so that she wouldn't be so afraid in the new barn. While he would probably end up sleeping out next to the round pen on a bale of hay or something, he didn't want her fretting. Making his way back out to the round pen, he finally actually glanced at the woman. She had a nice ass, he'd give her that, but that didn't mean a damn thing if there was nothing above her shoulders of note. He shrugged, sniggering before making his way to the round pen once again. "Hey, hey baby girl don't you cry-Archie's gonna sing you a lullaby..." Anyone that had heard the exchange in the barn and the voice he was now singing in to the mare, would not have believed that they were coming from the same man. His voice was softer now, caring, and calm. There was no bottled up anger or agression behind them, there was just love and adoration as he made his way to the gate, stumbling over a rock that he wasn't paying attention to and didn't see because of his partial blindness, and let himself back into the pen. Holding the bucket to his chest, he whistled gently for Bayside to come investigate. "And if that lullaby don't settle, Archie's gonna teach you how to count...cattle..?" Archie never had been good with rhyming, and that certainly was a cringe worthy verse.

After Archie had left, Bayside continued to call for him, pacing by the gate in a bit of a fret. She didn’t like that she couldn’t see him for quite some time. What was taking him so long? Had he left for good? Or was he going to come back? Different thoughts passed through her mind as she continued to try and watch out for him, finally catching sight of him and calling excitedly towards him, glad for his return. She flared her nostrils as she turned so she could see him, noticing the bucket he was carrying as she backed up, allowing him space to enter the round pen in. His singing calmed her down as she flicked her ears around, taking it all in. She reached out with her muzzle, sniffing at the bucket as he whistled gently for her. Taking careful steps, she moved towards the bucket, sniffing at it before taking a taste of it’s contents. Finding that it was warm and delicious, she settled down to start eating the food he’d prepared for her. Her ears flicking forwards and backwards as she continued to eat the bran mash that was prepared for her. Ostrich

He wasn’t sure what more could be said of the people. People were always breaking things and tossing them aside. Like they’d done to him, taken his freedom and shoved him in a remote location to do some off the wall civilian job that they never had enough work for him to do, and be a handyman. A handyman for the whole town basically. The only one who made sense to him, who he wanted to be around, was this little lady in front of him. He wasn’t gonna give her up for the world. “You’re making a mess Bayside,” he said with a bit of a laugh as he pulled his shirt up a little and used it as a rag to wipe off her face. He looked down at it after he’d done it, laughing lightly. “Should’ve thought that one through a little better, eh?” He shrugged to the horse and pulled his shirt off, tossing it aside.

Bayside was indeed making a mess of the bran mash that she was eating, getting it quite literally all over the place, and all over her face. She felt her person wipe her face clean, only to have her get it messier again as she finished the food in the bucket. When he took off his shirt she looked at him with a curious face, not quite sure what he was pulling it off for. She nudged him gently as she was done with her food. She tilted her head, so she could watch him with her good eye before rubbing her head against his chest.

"Awwwhhh grosssssss, you got me covered in horse snot!" Archie mockingly squealed, tossing his shirt aside at this point and just looking down at his bare chest, now smothered with the bran mash. He just laughed and shook his head, looking to the mare again. Seeing that she was done with the bucket, he picked it up and looked down in it, finding a little still left and scooping it up with his hand. He tossed the bucket aside, haphazardly throwing it but making sure that it was on Bayside's good side so she could see what he was doing. The haphazard...well, because it was his bad side. Taking the bran mash that was squashed into his hand, he took it and smashed it against her shoulder, making a hand print. He made sure not to hit her hard, but pressed enough that it would stick. He stepped back and looked to her, then to his chest, and just looked up grinning. For the moment, he didn't care if anyone else was around. "You, Horse Who Likes The Bran. Me, Bran Human." He took what was left on his hand and smashed it against his face, making lines across it but not much else, most of it was on her shoulder.
