Noble couldn't have been more excited than he was now, he was being taken home again by a man who seemed like the one who would keep him forever. He had loaded quickly for Austin, eager to get to wherever their new home was going to be. Flaring his nostrils through the slits in the side of the trailer to take in all the different smells around him, watching the scenery that went by. His ears were flicking in all different directions as he tried to take in everything. His eyes gleamed with bright anticipation and as he felt the truck start to slow, he let out an excited whinny. His head bobbed slightly, scattering his black mane everywhere as he pawed at the mats on the floor. He was like an energizer bunny, even though he hadn't rested the prior night and before that he had come over on a boat before being shipped to the sales barn, it was the happy adrenaline that kept him going. As soon as things calmed down he'd probably be asleep in his stall, happy as could be. For now though, the golden gelding just wanted to look at everything. Waiting impatiently for Austin to park the truck and get him out, calling out to the man to voice his impatience. Hearing another horse from a different area call back to him, his ears pricked forward more as he let out a rather loud, long hello. Oh he just couldn't wait, where was Austin? He really did need to hurry up. jenn

Even if Austin had any idea of how to drive a trailer, there was no way his tiny Honda civic was going to be able to pull a full-grown horse behind it. It was one of the major downsides to having a small car, although it was hard to beat the gas mileage. So, after loading his new horse onto the trailer, because Austin refused to let anyone else do it, he hopped into his car and followed the trailer, watching them like a hawk. It was a shipper that Howie had recommended so Austin wasn’t too terribly worried, but it never hurt to have an extra pair of eyes. The drive felt like it took forever, but in reality, it was only a 15 minute drive from the sales barn to Polaris. As the trailer was slowing to a stop, Austin turned his car into a parking spot nearby and practically bolted out of his car. All of the frustration he had felt about his younger half-brother had disappeared the instant he had laid eyes on Noble, and just the mere thought of the young gelding was enough to keep his mood elevated. He was excited to get Noble settled in. As Austin approached, he could hear the gelding moving around in the trailer. Austin was sure Noble was anxious to get out and stretch his legs, especially after spending the night in such a small, damp stall. He faintly heard another horse answer Noble’s call, but was too far away to try and identify who it was. Austin wasted no time once he arrived to where the trailer had parked. He instructed the driver to open the door and let down the ramp as Austin entered through a side door near where Noble’s lead was tethered. He murmured softly to the golden horse, “Hey big guy, welcome home.” Gently rubbing Noble’s forehead, he untied the lead and began to back the gelding out, murmuring softly to him the whole time to help keep him calm. Noble heard the car doors and called out again, pawing once more. Golden ears flicking in each direction to catch all of the sounds. As soon as Austin appeared through the side door, Noble nickered excitedly towards him as he bobbed his head. While Austin was rubbing his forehead, he was leaning into the attention, finding a simple pleasure in just being cared for. He wasn’t a hard horse to please, and he sure worked hard to make sure his owner was pleased with his work. He backed out carefully as Austin led him. Turning his head around and swiveling around Austin to take in all of the sites, calling out his greeting once more. He was already liking the smells of this place and couldn’t help but want to see everything. He turned his head towards Austin, bumping him eagerly, wanting to stretch his legs and explore this new place that would hopefully be his forever home with this man.

And I promise you kid That I’ll give so much more than I get Noble’s gentle nicker warmed Austin’s heart. It was unbelievable how attached the gelding was to him in such a short span of time. And vice versa, to be honest. There was just something special about him that Austin couldn’t quite put his finger on. It wasn’t the bloodlines, as impressive as they were. Austin wasn’t one to be impressed by pedigree, in humans or in horses. Austin was sure that the more he got to know Noble, the better he’d be able to vocalize it.
As the pair backed out of the trailer, Austin gave Noble enough of the lead line so that he could get a good look at his surroundings, but not too much that if Noble spooked, Austin wouldn’t be able to bring him back. Austin chuckled as the gelding whinnied again. From what he could tell, Noble seemed to be enjoying Polaris, which made Austin very happy. Although, quite frankly, anything was an improvement compared to where he had just been.
There was a quarantine paddock ready for Noble, but Austin didn’t quite want to bring him there yet. First, Austin was nervous that the buckskin was too excited to be let off the lead line. The last thing he wanted was for Noble to injure himself the first day he was here. Second, and more importantly, Austin wanted to get to know the horse a little better. It was clear that the gelding was as sweet as could be, but since he was such an impulse buy, Austin wanted to spend a little more time getting to know him. Leading him around the outdoor arena, which was currently empty, gave him the perfect opportunity to do so. Clucking slightly, Austin then said to him, “Come on big guy, let’s go for a walk.”

Feeling Austin loosen the lead to allow him a chance to look around, the gelding raised his head up and did just that. Taking in the sights and smells of this place. It seemed nice enough and he was quite distracted with everything new around him, until he heard Austin cluck slightly to him. Looking at the man he bobbed his head as he followed next to him. Keeping his shoulder even with where Austin was. He was bobbing his head a bit, prancing slightly even as he couldn't help but be quite excited with stretching legs. Hell if he was released from this lead he would most definitely bolt off around the arena, bucking and playing. He was quite an excited horse at the moment, tugging ever so slightly at the lead, hearing the metal jingle a bit as he pranced. jenn

And I promise you kid That I’ll give so much more than I get Austin was pleased to see that even in his excitement, Noble had ground manners. While he pranced and tugged on the lead line a little bit, he kept pace with Austin, keeping his shoulder inline with Austin at all times. Austin wasn’t concerned in the slightest that Noble seemed to be excited. Honestly, he’d be a little concerned if Noble wasn’t showing interest in his surroundings. A call out to the vet would have been Austin’s next step.
As the walked, Austin did his best to settle Noble, keeping his stride steady, and murmuring to him in a soothing voice. At first, he really didn’t say much else besides repeating, “You’re okay big guy, relax.” However, before he knew it, Austin was telling Noble all about Derek: the trouble the teen had gotten into that forced his mother to send him to Firefly Falls, the struggles he was currently having with him, and the concerns of what would happen if Derek didn’t clean up his act. It was cathartic, even if Noble had no idea what exactly Austin was saying. It felt good to finally share to someone the burden he had been carrying alone.

Noble cocked an ear towards Austin as he heard the male start to murmuring to him in his soothing voice. He eventually settled into a calm walk, lowering his head to be closer to Austin. He didn’t really know whom this person that Austin started telling him about was, but they seemed like they mattered a ton to him, so the golden gelding took interest in him, nudging Austin gently as if to tell him.
‘I’m listening and I care.’
He continued to take in everything this made was talking about. While he might not understand the language, he could understand the feelings that he was picking up on. It seemed like all of this talking helped lift something off his owner’s shoulders and for that he was glad. He loved being able to help people and it was something he took pleasure in doing.

And I promise you kid That I’ll give so much more than I get It didn’t take long for Noble to settle down, which was a good sign for Austin. It meant that even when he was over-stimulated, his attention could be redirected towards something productive. Austin of course would be asking for help with training, but Austin knew that he’d be able to some of his training on his own. Austin knew that it was just his calm voice that was soothing the large gelding, but Austin couldn’t help but wonder if Noble knew what he was saying and was trying to comfort to him. Austin couldn’t help but smile, despite the turmoil in his head, as Noble gently nudged his arm. Raising the arm that wasn’t holding the lead line and gently scratched the golden gelding’s forehead, saying, “Thanks for listening buddy.”
Noble was walking calmly, but Austin still wasn’t quite ready to put him in the paddock. It wasn’t because Austin was nervous that Noble would hurt himself, but moreso because he didn’t want to go home and have to deal with Derek yet. The farm was quiet; he hadn’t noticed any cars in the parking lot, so he didn’t believe that there were any lessons scheduled right now. He couldn’t see the harm in lounging Noble. Not hard, of course, but to at least see if he knew how to do that. Guiding Noble to the corner of the arena where Austin knew Howie kept the lounging equipment, Austin grabbed the lounge line. In a few quick movements, Austin exchanged the lead line for the lounge line and picked up the lounge whip. Austin then continued walking, letting a little more of the lounge line out at a time while simultaneously stepping backwards.

Noble continued to walk calmly next to Austin, his ears flicking between the man’s voice and the different sounds he was hearing around this new place. Once he felt the gentle scratch on his forehead, he slowed his steps to a stop while leaning into it, groaning softly in enjoyment. Once they started walking again he started glancing around, taking more things in as Austin led him to where some equipment was. The golden gelding stood quietly as Austin switched out the lead for a new thing before following him quietly again, as the lead slackened, and Austin walked backwards, the gelding glanced at him for a moment, flicking an ear towards him as he continued to keep walking. He had been trained on how to lunge so this wasn’t anything new to him. He simply just paid attention to what Austin might start asking of him. jennNote: Sorry it's not the best

And I promise you kid That I’ll give so much more than I get Noble remained quiet as Austin switched the lead line to the lunge line. Austin was confident that the gelding had been lunged before, but he would still take it slow, just in case it was just his mild temperament showing. Still, it was hard to believe that was true when Austin began backing away from Noble, who continued walking the path he had been. From the work he did on the training farm when he was a kid, he knew that teaching a horse to lunge was sometimes a very challenging and frustrating task. He hadn’t met a single horse who was a natural.
Once there was about 20 meters between Austin and Noble, he stopped walking backwards. He held the lunge line in one hand and the lunge whip in the other, his body forming the tip of the triangle between the two. Austin couldn’t help but smile when he saw that Noble’s inside ear was trained on where he was standing, pleased with how receptive he was. Austin knew he had bought a horse who was going to work hard for him, he had to do his part and steer him in the right direction.
Austin allowed Noble to walk several laps around him, making sure the gelding remained relaxed and focused. As he walked, Austin occasionally spoke to him, giving him words of encouragement. However, for the most part, Austin remained completely focused on the task at hand, his eyes remaining glued on the gelding. If there was anything else going on around him, he didn’t notice. After about ten minutes, Austin gave Noble the signal to switch directions. In case Noble didn’t know that yet, Austin was ready to step in and manually guide the horse to change the direction of the circle, but Austin was also curious to see how much he actually knew.

Noble was content for the first few trips around the circle, but not being told to do anything, his attention started to wander as he lowered his head to sniff at the ground, it was still quite new here and he wanted to explore and look around the place. He was getting distracted and just about missed Austin’s cue to turn around. He had seen the cue, but it was taking a few moments to actually register in his brain that he was supposed to still be working. Therefore he got around about half a circle before finally turning him around and refocusing an ear onto Austin.
He wasn’t quite sure what others cues he might have missed. Now he needed to focus on the man again due to being curious as to what he was going to ask next. He snort and flicked his tail as he watched and waited as patiently as he could for another instruction on what to do.

And I promise you kid That I’ll give so much more than I get Noble didn’t respond to his cue to switch directions immediately, and Austin began to think that he’d only received rudimentary training. Austin was getting ready to stop the gelding so he could walk over and manually turn him around when Noble seemed to realize what was being asked of him and turned around, his inner ear fixed to where Austin was standing. The gelding was super willing, there was no doubt about it, but he was definitely going to need some training. Austin was excited for the challenge. He hadn’t trained a horse since he worked at the eventing farm in high school, and this would be the first time he trained his own horse. Austin wasn’t worried, though. He was surrounded by tons of knowledgeable horse people and Noble had such a willing attitude, Austin was sure he would succeed.
Austin let Noble circle a few times in this direction, allowing the gelding to stretch his legs. Austin wanted to make sure the buckskin’s muscles were nice and loose before asking him to do any real work. After several laps, Austin felt that Noble had warmed up enough, and was clearly getting bored at the walk. Clucking his tongue, Austin wiggled the lunge whip a little bit before calling out to Noble, “Trot.” It would be the first time he would see the gelding’s gait and he was excited to see what the gelding could do.

Noble was indeed getting bored of walking in a circle. He was the type of horse one would want to hang a toy ball in the stall of so he wouldn’t pick up any bad habits. He constantly needed new challenges to keep his attention hooked. If he got too bored he’d zone out and stop listening. Working with Austin though, he was curious to learn more about his new owner, curious as to what work would be asked of him as he cocked his head a bit, eyeing up the man. His ears swiveled as he heard Austin give another command, hearing a familiar word, the golden gelding extended and quickened his pace into a rather nice, easy trot. His back hooves did come a little close to his front ones, but besides that his trot didn’t look super bouncy or like it would have been hard to sit.
In fact one could probably balance an egg while trotting on him, depending on the kind of trot it was though. Snorting at the dirt that was being kicked up, Noble paid full attention to Austin, wondering what was next. He hoped it wouldn’t be to go around so many circles for not only would he get slightly dizzy, but he would grow bored of working in these simply circles…
