He scrambled from the beach, sand still coating his clothes. Where was he? Where had he been? WHO was he was the best question? It didn't matter. The fire was burning in him and he knew the one taste that could end it. He growled under his breath, biting at his lip, where was it that he could get such a drink without any sort of hassle? He scrambled to the dock, doing his best to walk straight, it seemed there was a bit of a problem with his legs though. He looked down to them, but every time he tried to stand, they would tremble when he would try to stand, and he would ultimately collapse again onto his knees. No matter how many times he tried, he was like a foal trying to take its first steps. He grunted, growling to himself and forcing himself to stand before he grasped the railing of the wharf and looked to the different places that surrounded him. Quiet settled over the land, and he was not drew to any of the places at first...but then a loud noise echoed to him from the bar and he decided that was the best place to go. Heading toward it with hampered steps he made his way inside. The hostess asked him if it was just a table for one, and asked if he would like to sit by the bar. Not sure if that was entirely the best option, he opted to sit at a booth. Doing his best to take delicate steps he made his way to the booth that she directed him toward. He gave her a smile and sat down, giving a sigh of relief that he tried to hide-walking was hard with sea legs. He dare not ask about the rum yet...that would be in a moment when they asked for a drink. He could wait, and with his brilliant colored eyes he scanned the restaurant for who would come to him. Could he entice them with other means of payment perhaps? Who knew. Whooo knew... jenn |

From the minute Maisie had stepped into work, she had been on her feet. It had been non-stop service since 3:00pm. She really couldn’t complain, because in the 4 hours she’d been at work, she’d made close to $300 in tips, and she still had half a shift left. But, as much as she needed the cash, she was tired. Her feet were burning and her quads were beginning to shake. It was her fourth day of work in a row, and her body was starting to protest. Maisie just reminded herself that it was all in the name of the sport that she so fiercely loved. She cursed herself again for not falling in love with like soccer or volleyball, something normal and less expensive than eventing.
Seeing that all her tables were taken care of, Maisie sat down in an empty seat at the bar. Immediately, she felt relief. She was tempted by the smell of liquor. Just one shot of Tequila, her preferred drink, would help make this shift bearable. However, before she could get the bartender’s attention, Maisie watched the hostess place another patron in her section. Rolling her eyes, Maisie grumbled under her breath, “Goddamn it, I just wanted one tiny break.” But, Maisie jumped to her feet and headed over to the table, her curled brown hair bouncing slightly in its ponytail.
As Maisie approached, she saw that the young man was quite disheveled. He had sand all over her clothes and a dazed look in his eyes. But Maisie wasn’t one to judge, and ignoring his appearance, she said in a bored tone, “Hi, welcome to Smokin’ Hot Bar and Grill, can I start you off with something to drink?” Maisie took her notepad from her pocket and her pen from behind her eye, and poised both in front of her, ready to jot down his order. She couldn’t help but stare at him as she waited for him to reply. He looked like he had gotten in a fist fight on the beach. Who was Maisie to judge, though. She had gotten in her fair share of fist fights herself.

He glanced at the menu, frowning. He didn't even understand what type of money this was listed here. He felt his pockets...there were two gold dubloons in his pocket, would that be enough? He glanced up to the girl that came over to wait on him, giving her a smile. He tried to not let his eyes wander, but it had been quite a while since he'd seen such a fine specimen. He couldn't help but take a little look though.
"How much...how much rum would this get me?"
He fished the piece of gold out of his pocket and laid it out on the table, before looking up to her with a sheepish little half smile. He wasn't sure what it was worth anymore; but surely it was worth something, right? Maybe it would at least get him a shot. He had been told before that he had an award winning smile, but that was by the whore houses, and they'd still never give him anything free. He leaned a little closer, grinning.
"I've got nice booty somewhere, but I have to remember where I put it, beautiful poppit."

Maisie couldn’t help but smirk as she noticed the young man looking her up and down. She enjoyed the attention, especially when it led to fun after her shift ended, and it was the reason Maisie dressed the way she did. She wasn’t happy with the way her body looked, and always felt like that she could slim down more, but she knew that wearing tight clothing that showed off her assets was the best way to get tips in this place.
Maisie snorted as she watched the stranger pull out two tokens and ask how much he could get with it. Without waiting to think, Maisie asked him, “Where did those come from, the arcade next door?” The coins did seem to be incredibly shiny for fakes, but it had been a long time since Maisie had been around kids. It seemed more likely that they were just incredibly realistic looking game tokens than real gold coins.
Maisie rolled her eyes as the guy referenced booty. He was really trying to play up the pirate façade. Although Maisie just couldn’t be surprised anymore. She quickly learned that the pacific island seemed to attract the strange. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but about half of the locals just seemed…odd. Sighing, she told him, “Listen, all you had to do was tell me you didn’t have money. I’ve been here before buddy. I can get you a few drinks.” Smirking a bit, she continued, “But, I don’t do anything for free. So, what are you gonna offer me instead? My shift ends at 11.” Coyly, Maisie placed the back of her pen on her red-stained lips, waiting for the answer she already knew was coming. The cost of the drinks was going to come from her paycheck. But, she was bored and had nothing to do after work. It was worth the few bucks it was going to cost her to add a little excitement to her night. Besides, he wasn’t bad looking. She had definitely worked with less.

Pyrite happened to notice the smirk, and he thought it quite becoming on her. He'd seen girls with more fat on them; but she would do. She was quite the looker, whatever she had on her. He frowned at her comments about the coins, snatching it off the table and flicking it between his fingers. He didn't want to appear stupid, but he definitely didn't know what an arcade even was. He just watched the coin flip between his fingers a moment, before flipping it between his fingers into his palm, and making it disappear. He knew she probably wasn't going to be impressed by the silly magic trick; probably knew what the trick of it was. He sighed, leaning back on the booth.
"Ay, I can wait. Bring me some hard tack if you've got some to spare, and I'll dredge up something. I steal from the red coats, not from pretty lasses."
He glanced up toward her with a grin, his teeth surprisingly well kept for someone as old and of the time he came from. As she asked him how he could pay her back, he couldn't help but give a wide grin.
"Well, my dear, I've been told I'm the pride of the sea men."

Maisie saw the quick frown on the man’s face as he twirled the coins in his fingers, making them disappear. It led Maisie to believe maybe he wasn’t trying to snow her, and they were actually worth some kind of monetary value, even if they weren’t American currency. She felt kind of bad now for making fun of him, but didn’t really have time to dwell. As much fun as she was having, she did have other tables to wait, and she really couldn’t afford to piss of anymore customers. If any more people lodged complaints about her this month, she was sure she was going to get fired.
Maisie raised her eyebrow at his hard tack comment. She couldn’t tell if he was some kind of historical impersonator who took his job a little too seriously or if he was delusional. Chuckling, Maisie told him, “Sorry pal, no one has made hard tack in the last 3 centuries. But, every table gets a complimentary bread basket, so I’m sure I can sneak one out her for you.” Still laughing, Maisie jotted it down in her notepad, not wanting to forget about it while she checked in on the other tables. As she wrote, she nearly snorted at his last comment, but managed to control herself. Winking at him, she told him, “I’m sure you are.”
Without waiting for a response, Maisie walked off and did her rounds with her other assigned tables. Everyone was eating happily, and after dropping off one check, Maisie walked into the kitchen. The cooks were too busy to notice Maisie snagging one of the prepared bread baskets, and quite frankly, Maisie didn’t think any of them would care. However, before going over to where the strange man was sitting, Maisie first made a stop at the bar. With a little flirting and a lot of begging, she managed to convince him to give her a glass of the house rum on the rocks. It wasn’t going to be good, but if he was going into withdrawals like she assumed he was, he’d be grateful for anything.
Walking back to where the pirate impersonator was sitting, Maisie placed the bread and the glass in front of him, telling him, “Bartender said it’s on the house. Can’t promise you much more than that.”

He blinked. He knew he was a little out of his element, but three centuries?
"Miss, do you all happen to have a paper?"
He didn't even know why he asked. But he could remember the town criers in the street screaming read all about it, and it was one of the few things he did remember. How long had he been...away? As Maisie was away, a small boy ran up to the table and began talking hurriedly to him.
"Wow! Are you really a pirate?! Can I see your ship sir?"[/i]
Of course he had to put on a bit of a show for him, as his mother ran up and nearly hauled him away, but she couldn't help but give a small smile to the man. Pyrite did his trick for the child and he squealed with delight. Pulling the coin out from behind his ear, he stared at it a moment. The girl had thought it was a coin of sorts from the arcade next door, whatever that was. He didn't see the look on the mother's face, the look of utter surprise, when she got a good look at the coin. He handed it to the boy with a smile. The boy squealed and hustled away the boy, looking to the man with a smile.
"Thank you. He's a little obsessed because I am. Blame Hollywood...but that's..."
She leaned a little closer, glancing again to the boy as he bounced back to his father.
"That's real, isn't it?"
Pyrite nodded, not looking her in the eye. She reached into her purse, glancing toward the door where her husband was. She gave him a thumbs up as she reached into her wallet and pulled out a hundred dollar bill.
"That coin is worth more than this, but it's all I have. I hope you can do some good with it."
She smiled to him and turned away, leaving with her husband and child. Pyrite just stared at the piece of paper. What was this parchment? A note of some sort.
He glanced up as Maisie as she came back, still staring at the piece of paper. His eyes lit up when he saw the drink she set in front of him.
"Um...here. I don't know what to do with this. What can this get me?"
He shoved the hundred dollar bill into her hand as he took the drink from her. He took a sip, he gave a gasp and threw his head back, running his tongue slowly over his lips.
"So much better than the piss I'm used to."
He glanced up to her, batting his eyes to her a little.
"Come on sweetie, keep em coming and I'll show you the best time you've ever had."

Maisie was incredibly confused when the man handed her a $100 dollar bill. She was positive he didn’t have it earlier, and while he had mentioned stealing from the red coats, she couldn’t imagine that he had actually pick-pocketed anyone. Maisie quickly shrugged it off, assuming that he had asked someone to spare some change. There were enough wealthy people in this town, especially if one if it happened to be a weekend where parents visited the Academy. Maisie handed the bill back to the man, chuckling a little as she told him, “Trust me, you do not want $100 worth of rum. That drink was only four-bucks. Hold on to this, I’ll open you a tab and collect at the end.”
Maisie couldn’t help but raise her eyebrows as the young man told her it was good rum. Without thinking, she said, “Either you’ve only drank terrible rum or you’re in the DTs, because our house rum is awful.” Tequila was definitely Maisie’s drink of choice, but when the bartenders were sneaking you liquor, beggars couldn’t be choosy. So she knew exactly how good the bottom shelf rum was. Well, she knew how terrible all the bottom shelf liquor was, but that was entirely besides the point.
Winking again, Maisie told him, “Stick around until 11 and I’ll show you the best time you’ve ever had.” She was incredibly curious to see if he would stick around, or if this was all a ruse to get free food and alcohol. It didn’t matter much to Maisie. Even if he did disappear, she was sure she could find another willing participant to entertain her for the night. Maisie then remembered he had asked for a newspaper as she had left, and quickly told him, “Oh, let me find a newspaper for you, and I’ll bring you over a menu. The bread is good, but it’s not that good.” Without waiting for a response, Maisie left again.

He was slightly confused when she handed it back to him, glancing at it. Was it not worth anything either? Well, shoot. He'd given away one of his lucky coin for that little scrap of paper. He wasn't sure where to put it; he was still quite wet, so he just laid it sitting on the table. He just stared at it for a moment, before looking back up to the girl who stood there staring at him a bit dumbfounded now. He didn't really have a concept of what $100 meant, so he wasn't sure how much rum that would be.
"Why wouldn't someone want $100 worth of rum? Sounds like a wonderful time to me."
He didn't understand what bucks were either, so he wasn't sure how dollars related to bucks. Perhaps it was like pences and six pences, where they were part of the whole. He really was going to have to figure this out somehow, so he didn't come across as a complete and utter idiot in front of the pretty girl. And how would he know how much to pay at the brothel, when he found where one was on the island?
He glanced to her, his face bending to a bit of a lost puppy frown as she made the comment about the DTs...he didn't even know what those were either. Was this even English she was speaking? He was used to Spanglish, many of the Carribean ports spoke it, and when he had dealings in Europe they had spoken it...but he was unfamiliar with this slang. He knew he was uneducated, but he had never quite felt completely...daft...like she was making him feel.
He saw the wink though, and the smile returned. He winked back to her, raising the glass to his lips and taking a long hard sip of the liquor in it. His eyes fluttered closed as the wonderful burning sensation oozed down the back of his throat. His eyes shot open again as he gave a satisfied sigh and set the glass down again, looking up to her. He knew what eleven o'clock was.
"The witching hour almost, ay, I can do that. I've no where else to be."
He also knew what a menu was, so as she roamed off to find one and a newspaper, he reached for the bread basket and took a long bite. Oh...how good it felt to eat real food again.

As Maisie ran off, she couldn’t but sneak another peek at the stranger. He just seemed so confused, as if he really was from another time period. But that, of course, was impossible. There was no such thing as time travel, that Maisie was sure of. There were only two logical explanations for the young man’s current predicament. One was that he was delusional, from either mental illness, drugs, or too much alcohol, and he created this fantasy where he was a pirate. The other was that he had suffered a head injury that created the delusion that he was a pirate. Either way, the man was delusional, and both explanations were more fathomable than a man who was actually several centuries old. But, at least Maisie wasn’t going to be bored. Delusional or not, there was no denying that the stranger was entertaining.
Before returning to the young man’s table, Maisie did another round of her tables, dropping off checks, clearing plates, and swiping credit cards. She was stiffed a tip from one table, but other overcompensated, so it all evened out in Maisie’s mind. After a few moments, Maisie grabbed a menu and the free local paper from the hostess. Maisie wasn’t quite sure what the man needed from a newspaper, but she was sure that this one wasn’t going to help much. It was more of a gossip column than an actual newspaper, but at least he couldn’t say that she tried.
Maisie swung by his table and dropped off the items. She was about to strike up conversation when she saw another customer waving at her, trying to get her attention. Maisie rolled her eyes at the stranger before her, showing her displeasure. She hated being told when to do something. It was probably why she had never really been able to keep a steady job. Maisie then told him, “I’ll give you a minute with the menu, then come back to take your order.” Without waiting for a response, Maisie darted off again.

He glanced to the girl, then to the newspaper and the menu. He realized then that this was either in a foreign lanuage...or that he'd never learned to read. He couldn't quite remember which of the two it was, which just proved he'd forgotten something or another. So he just gave her a bit of a sly grin, as if he was playing, and kept on acting like he wasn't stupid.
The reason he'd asked for the newspaper was the date. The last date he remembered was the early 1800s, upon his ship the Commodore. It was a silly name for a ship, for sure, but it caused confusion when it approached and the tales that were told of it were quite chilling. He had gone down with it, and he remained at the bottom of the sea beds for years after. And now...Now all he knew was that he could never go back to her, as he might be taken by her. Perhaps it was time for him to go anyway...but there was something about this girl that tempted him, tantalized him...wanted to find out more. And so he looked at the newspaper. The year was 2017. Nearly two hundred years after the Commodore had seen it's last stand in the 1850s. His mouth dropped slightly. Two hundred years he'd been floating along that seabed. Two hundred years he hadn't felt the touch of a woman. Two hundred years...and he was still in the same clothes. Granted, he only had taken about a bath a year, but...two hundred years? He probably smelled awful.
He glanced around at the tables around him-they were in strange refined clothing that looked far more skilled than anything that could be done by hand. He looked down to his own clothes...he felt like something was...off. Also looking down at his clothes, he realized how hungry he was, and he turned to look at the menu. He stared at the pictures, not being able to read any of the words on the page anyway. They all looked rather appetizing, but it was the steak that made his mouth water. He nodded to it, and figured he would point to it when the girl returned. He glanced around for her, and when he saw her approaching once more, he grinned. He pointed to the steak on the page.
"I want that."
He of course had never heard about the different stages of cooking, and frankly didn't care. He'd eat it straight off the cow if he had to.

Just like Maisie had predicted, the conversation with the customer who had pulled her away from the stranger was dull and pointless. Well, probably not pointless. The customer needed a drink refill, and it wasn’t like they were exactly able to go to the kitchen to retrieve it themselves. But, Maisie still didn’t appreciate being pulled away so quickly. Especially since Maisie had just done rounds on her tables, and everyone was fine. It meant that the customer was clearly impatient, which Maisie was sure was going to translate into a poor tip for her.
After retrieving another diet soda for the customer, Maisie returned to where he stranger remained seated, pulling out her notebook and pen from her back pocket as she did so. She had her pen cocked to write, but before she could even ask what he would like, the stranger pointed at one of the better quality steaks on the menu, stating that was what he wanted. Maisie jotted it down and told him, “I’m not even going to let you order any other way but medium rare. The chef become distressed when you order it any other way, and quite frankly, I don’t blame him. It ruins the meat.” Glancing down at his drink, she smirked as she saw how empty the glass was already. She added, “And I’ll grab you another refill on your drink.” Without waiting for a response, Maisie darted off to the bar to place the drink order before returning to the kitchen.
The chef was happy to oblige the stranger’s steak order when she gave it to him. Turning around, Maisie left the kitchen, and found that the bartender had already prepared the drink. She picked it up without stopping her forward motion, careful to not slosh the liquid out of the chilled glass, and returned to the stranger. Maisie placed the glass on the table and said, “There you go, need anything else?”

He was surprised by her remark, not really knowing what she meant by ordering it any other way. In his time, you got it the way they cooked it or you got the hell out. Generally, that was only until the outer meat was seared; the middle was still dripping with blood. Health standards were not the same as they were here. He shrugged to the statement though, not about to argue.
"The lady knows best..."
He mused, remembering the old song his ship mates would sing. It wasn't one of the well known ones-something they had made up on one of their long journeys over the sea, without a woman in sight for many months. Something about the lady knows best so you could get under her skirt...it would take him a few more drinks to probably remember all the words. Before he could really respond further, she was gone in a few hurried steps to do whatever it is she was doing. She was quite the skilled tavern wench; just the right amount of sass to keep things interesting.
She had taken the menu with her, so he had nothing to do to entertain him while she was gone. He set his elbow on the table and his head on his hand, strumming the table with the other five fingers. It made a quite hollow sound, but the feel of it was far different then the rough wooden tables and benches he was used to. His mind wandered, trying to remember everything he'd forgotten...which was quite a lot, given the circumstances. He remembered sailing the seas, he remembered going to ports and having a jolly old time...and then, nothing. He couldn't really remember before that either.
Before he'd really gotten far into his trying to remember, she was already back with the drink order. He looked up to her with a twinkle in his eye, taking the drink from her delicately as if she was handing him the elixir of life. He took a sip of it, and then let out a satisfied 'ahhhh'. He licked his lips, closing his eyes a moment to savor it as he set the glass down a moment and looked back up to her.
"Anything else, eh? A roll in the hay would be nice, if this place has rooms upstairs...I'm not picky though. It's been too long for me to be terribly picky..."
He grinned, showing off stained teeth. How he managed to have teeth still intact after the horrible care he took of them in centuries past probably had something to do with being made out of water, but that was something else. They were stained and yellowed, gnarled, but he still had them all in mostly working order. He thought nothing wrong of what he'd said to her; it was often that the tavern wenches would be more than willing to oblige for a few extra dollars, and judging by the hoops and hollerings of the people at the bar as they stared at some strange source of light with an image of a human in padding on it, he considered this was probably the best place to ask.

The stranger had a similar reaction to the rum as he did before, which Maisie still did not understand. In fact, she understood it even less this time. Because this time, at least he already had alcohol on board to get rid of any withdrawal symptoms he might have been showing. Although, quite frankly, Maisie hadn’t really noticed any. So either he was really good at hiding it, or for some unknown reason, he had a preference for really terrible rum. It didn’t really matter much to Maisie, but it just added more questions about where this stranger had come from that she really didn’t think she’d ever get the answer to.
As soon as Maisie asked her question, she saw the impish look on the stranger’s face, and knew he was going to say something vastly inappropriate. If she was being honest, they were her favorite comments. Sure enough, the next comment was about a roll in the hay. Rolling her eyes, Maisie told him, “Nobody has taken a roll in the hay in the last century.” Then, leaning onto the table, purposely making sure her cleavage was within eye level with the stranger, she continued in a low tone, “But, if you’re lucky and I’m in the mood, I’ll bring you back to my place and I’ll show you a real good time.” Standing up straight again, Maisie smirked before saying. “I don’t bring strangers home, though. So it’s up to you to convince me that you’re a friend, not a stranger.” She was hoping to at least get a name. Maisie didn’t have too many standards when it came to bringing people back for one-night stands, but she usually liked to be on a first name basis. Usually.
Maisie inwardly flinched as she saw the state of the man’s teeth as he threw her a full-mouth grin. It looked like he hadn’t seen a dentist in, well, ever. They were yellow and twisted, showing years of abuse. But, it wasn’t a deal breaker. Especially if she was intoxicated enough. And, hopefully, before they snuck off for the night, he’d buy her a couple of shots so she could catch up to his alcohol level. Something told her that he wasn’t anywhere close to finish drinking.
In the background, Maisie faintly heard the bell ringing from the kitchen, indicating that a meal was ready to be picked up. Maisie held up a finger, giving the universal sign for one moment, before darting off. As she did so, she couldn’t help but notice that the dining area had mostly cleared out. All but two of her tables, at least, were taken care of: the stranger, and one other that was finishing up their meal. Before picking up the steak, she grabbed the check for her other table, hopefully to encourage them to finish up and leave. Before leaving the kitchen, she called out to the manager, “It’s dead out here, I’m going to clock out early.” She quickly left so that the manager couldn’t say no, dropped off the check, and returned to the man’s table, placing the steak down as she said, “It’s your lucky day, I’ll be done early tonight.”

He was quite tempted to bury his face into her cleavage when she showed it, making sure that he got a stellar view of it. He sucked in his breath, and brought the rum to his lips, swilling down a swig...and sputtering. Blinking a few times he settled himself once more as she made the comeback, and he frowned. He really was just going to have to drink himself into a hole. Maybe he'd fall into a ditch and finally die. He was going to have to get the lingo down right or he'd never be able to pick up another woman. And what was living without women and booze?
He sighed heavily, looking up to her at her comment about taking him home. Having to make him a friend first. What exactly did that mean? The women back home wouldn't have asked such...stupid things. They'd take his money, throw him up against the bar, and get him off. Now he actually had to try?
"Well, let's start with names, love. I'm Pyrite Smith. Py, if you will."
He smirked. Girls always liked food, right?
She scurried off, and he sat there brooding. Was the hundred he had that she seemed so excited about enough to win her 'friendship' as they were calling it these days? He looked up to her as she brought the steak over, and his eyes gleamed with a different type of hunger, his mouth instantly starting to water.
He didn't care about the silverware, and instead grabbed the steak off the plate and started gnawing on it. Several yums and mmms escaped him as he tore it apart, glancing to her as she said she was off early.
"Then cash me out, sweetheart, and let me show you what a friend I can be..."
His mouth was still full as he was speaking, chewing tastily. He slapped the hundred down on the table.
"Get yourself some dinner too, and keep the change. I've no use for it, and you can show me around this place..."
He grinned, and then turned back to the steak and began gnawing on it again with his hands.

As the stranger finally introduced himself as Pyrite, it took all self-control not to raise an eyebrow or make a witty comment. There was no way that was the man’s name, dressed in pirate garb. It had to be an alias of some sort. But, on the other hand, Py didn’t seem to be making a joke. Who was Maisie to judge? Maisie simply told the stranger, “Nice to meet you Py, I’m Maisie. But, you can call be Mai.”
Maisie was initially surprised as Pyrite ignored his silverware and picked up the steak with his hands. The bar wasn’t exactly a 5 star restaurant, but typically silverware were accompanied in meals like the steak. However, her thoughts were interrupted as Py slapped down the $100 bill, telling her to cash him out. She chuckled a little and said, “We can still do a lot of drinking with that. Let’s just see where the night takes us.” She definitely had full intentions of going home with Py tonight, she just needed some more liquid courage.
Maisie felt her stomach drop as he offered to buy her dinner. She hadn’t been planning on eating dinner tonight, was going to save the calories for the drinks she was sure she was going to consume. However, she felt rude turning Py’s offer down. She had tortured him enough this evening, teasing his strange speech and apparent lack of current pop culture knowledge. She nodded and told him, “I’ll grab something from the kitchen as I cash out that last card. I’ll refresh our drinks while I’m there.” Winking, she turned away towards her last customer, doing her best to suppress the voice in her head that told her she didn’t need to eat.
Maisie quickly ran the customer’s credit card and returned it to the table. She was officially done for the night, for the bus boys will pick up the signed slip and return it to the register. She compromised with herself and picked up a salad with grilled chicken, knowing full well that she was merely going to pick at it. She had become pretty adept at moving food around on her plate to give it the appearance that she had actually eaten something. She then made a quick stop at the bar, picking up two more rums, before returning to Pyrite’s table. After distributing the plate and glasses, Maisie sat down and said, “Well Pyrite, I’m all yours for the night.”

"Mai, Like a Mai Tai? Oooo...does that mean you taste like one?"
Pyrite saw absolutely no problem with his failing attempts at picking her up, and perhaps it was the alcohol that was making his otherwise lame pick up lines seem even lamer. He grinned though as she appeared to accept his offer on the food, and said she'd get something from the kitchen. He winked at her as she winked at him, feeling fairly confident in himself that he was going to have a warm bed to sleep in with a warm body next to it. With that thought in mind, he took another swill of his drink and gave a refreshed ah after, awaiting the return of the minx. He had to surpress his desires to slap her bum as she turned away from him, judging by the scenery that it would not be acceptable at the moment. There would be plenty of that later on though. He finished the rest of the food on his plate hungrily as he awaited for her to return, finishing off the rest of his glass before she slipped into the seat across from him with her salad.
"Oh, all mine for the rest of the night? And what, pray tell, does that mean I get to do with you for the rest of the night, Mai Tai?"
He snatched up the drink off the table and looked from her to her plate, wanting her to finish eating so they could be on their merry way.

Maisie snorted a little bit at Pyrite’s Mai Tai comment. No one had actually made that connection before, which was funny considering how much Maisie drank. She composed herself and smirked before telling him, “I don’t know, why don’t you find out?” Maisie knew she was being unnecessarily coy, for there was no doubt in her mind that she and Pyrite would be “rolling in the hay” as he would say. But, it was fun to flirt, and as strange as Py was, she enjoyed his company.
Maisie picked at her salad, moving things around her plate more than she ate. She didn’t think Pyrite would notice, since he was now several drinks ahead of her, but she did take a few bites here and there, just in case. However, she quickly drank her rum, more so because it went down faster if she chugged it rather than sip it. Well rum wasn’t meant to be casually sipped anyway. Maisie grinned at Pyrite’s question, practically purring as she told him, “What would you like to do tonight?” Maisie already had a pretty good idea what he was going to say, but it was still fun to hear him ask for it.
Maisie downed the last bit of her drink in one gulp, wincing a little as the liquor burned the back of her throat. She wasn’t even buzzed, her tolerance for alcohol way above one drink, even on a mostly empty stomach. Maisie was going to need some tequila to loosen up. Grinning wickedly, she told Pyrite, How about a change in pace? Some tequila, perhaps?” It wouldn’t take much. 3 shots back to back would be enough to cloud her mind, but not enough that she would black out. But, she would need at least that to expose herself to a complete stranger.

Totally thought I had already replied to this cause we’d been talking about it. Doing it on my phone with interruptions from a certain orange four legged beast, so going to be short.
He smirked at her smile, his lips curling up with reveling but adorable dimples in his cheeks. If he could snag this wench, she’d for sure be his Mai Tai queen, and he’d show her just what Calypso was missing when she stood up Davy Jones. He didn’t pay much attention to her food after that, paying more attention to her and her body language.
“Oh MaiTai, I would love to try you out and see how your sails billow in the wind while I steer into the cove.”
Well, that was corny enough to even make him laugh. He was certainly rusty with wenches. He finished off his run and looked to her when she asked what he’d want to do. A million thoughts ran through his head. He’d like to figure out who the hell he was, where the hell he was, and why water was betraying him. He’d like to fit in; as it seemed he was stuck here for now, which means he needed clothes. And probably a shower, if the date was right then he hadn’t showered in a few hundred years-there were probably barnacles everywhere. Did he dare go to the bathroom and check to make sure she wouldn’t think he was diseased? Could he even get diseases being non human? Well, he couldn’t tell her that exactly; she already thought he was crazy.
“Let’s steal a boat, raid their liquor cabinet, and make love messes all over their boat until the tip of the sun pokes its head above the fat horizon and then we’ll bring it back and steal through town like bandits in the early morning light.”
He grinned, it seemed a wonderful plan to him, but would it to her? At the mention of tequila is stomach twisted, but he wasn’t about to mention that to her. Especially since even in his day, tequila made their clothes fall off.
“Perhaps that is something we should take to go, Mai Tai, there are children here.”
He gave her an eyebrow wiggle and a wink.

Maisie couldn’t help but snort again at his words. Where did he learn to speak like this that he thought these corny lines actually worked? As strange as he was, though, Py was a pretty great distraction. For the first time in a long time, she was actually enjoying the company of another human being, and while she was still using him to numb the racing thoughts that were constantly streaming in her brain, she was having fun simultaneously.
Maisie had just taken a sip of her rum when Pyrite announced his intended plans for the evening. She couldn’t help but laugh and it took all self-control not to spit it out. It was so oddly specific, Mai had no idea how he managed to think it up on the spot. She couldn’t even tell if he was being serious or joking. Once she finally got the dark liquor down her throat, sputtering a little bit as it burned on the way down, she began to full-out belly laugh. After a moment, with tears of laughter in the corners of her eyes, she was finally able to say, “Geez Py, you’re a hoot. Although maybe next time you can time that up better so I don’t end up choking on cheap liquor.” She still couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not, so chuckling a little more, she then added, “We should probably avoid doing anything that could get the cops called on us. Generally, this is a pretty sleepy town and the police get a little over-zealous at any sort of action.” She had quite a few run-ins with law enforcement since moving to the island, but thankfully, they had all been for minor offenses and she was able to wiggle her way out of any charges. But, Maisie didn’t really feel like pushing her luck.
Maisie gave a little fake sigh of disappointment before responding to Py’s next proposition, “Unfortunately this dumb island has open container laws so we can’t bring alcohol to go.” Her eyes lighting up them, she smiled and continued, “But, we do pass a liquor store on our way my place. What do you say we blow this popsicle joint and get the party started?” Maisie was confident that Py’s response wouldn’t surprise her.
