He didn't like it here. He didn't like the metal contraption...they smelled awful, like rotting sand, and they were dark. They were always dark, no matter how many windows were open. It was stale in the trailer and he could not feel the air on his skin. He missed the feel of the air. He had liked it, whooshing against his face as he raced around the track. The feel of the dirt flying up onto his abdomen, the feel of the dirt flying at his face so that he knew there was someone in front of him. That was what he missed...but he missed his friends to. He missed the smell of his beloved, though he had never told her his feelings. He missed the touch of her muzzle against his shoulder. Secretly, he had always hoped they'd let them breed, and just live out their days together-but he knew that was not how his world worked. Not in the racing world. The trailer came to a lurch, and he whinnied, stomping his hoof as he waited to be freed from the contraption. He was impatient, but he behaved and stood still as he waited. As soon as the bar was down behind him he backed out quickly though, causing the handler to have to jump out of the way. He snorted, standing there as they took the lead rope. As he drew in another breath though, his ears pricked. His head flipped around, but of course could not see anything other than it was day. But he smelled her...she was here. With a squeal he reared, pulling the lead rope from the handler's hand. A whinny escaped him. "Balllurrrrr!"He called out, landing with a thud as his ears pricked, straining to hear a response. callie RileyCasper I figure we can do him and valor first for a few posts then Preston comes in?

The mare stood facing the corner in her stall, her once lustrous coat now a dull, dusty black. The fire that once burned in her eyes had disappeared. Everything had changed once she had been sold yet again. She had lost her best friend and her lover, though she had never revealed her true feelings for him. She desperately likes fed to be back in that pasture next to him, sharing gentle nuzzles and playful nips between the fence boards. But the past was the past, and she had no idea where her dear Pumpkin had gone.
Many people had flocked to the yard once they heard that Valor had arrived at the sales yard. However, once they saw how degraded she had become, the offers had become lower and lower, and interest had faded. Every once and awhile, a group of little girls would come and try to offer the mare treats of various kinds, but she never paid any attention to them.
Her ears twitches as she heard another trailer roll in, and judging by the sounds of it, it was hauling someone anxious. She heard the clatter as the other horse backed out, eager to be out of the confined space. Suddenly, a familiar scent passed through her bares and she inhaled deeply. Could it be? Could it really be her dearest Pumpkin? A loud whinny rang through the barn, confirming her thoughts. Valor spun around in her stall and stuck her head out the small window. Pumpkin! I'm here!" she called back, leaning hard against the door, eager to be free, eager to feel his touch once more.

Pumpkin could smell her and was hauling his handler toward the barn as soon as his feet landed upon the ground once more. Hearing her voice, he knew he could not be delusional. Despite his handlers attempts and yanking on the lead, the white horse could not be stopped by such things and just pulled harder. Of course, he stumbled a few times with his blind eyes; bumped his nose into trailers and humans. The gravel scraped the earth beneath his feet as he dug his feet in. Another came to grab the lead and try to stop his rampage-one even tried to stand in front of him...Before, of course, the handler realized and yelled a 'get out of the way he's blind!' and the man dove just as pumpkin was about to blow through him. They did not know the bond these horses had shared between the fence; they did not know how special they were to each other...to have been torn apart only to be reunited again. As he entered the barn though, the light faded. What little he could see of the world, the shadows-faded into complete darkness. Some stood in awe of the perfectly white horse, some squeaked and hid from the horse standing there without a person attached. Another came at him with a twitch and a shank, but they did not reach him before he set off again. Without the light, the going was rougher-he could see nothing, and so he bumped into nearly every hay bale, tripped over every rock, tripped over a brush, bumped into people. Still the poor handler held on, digging his feet in and skidding across the dirt floor of the sales barn. Horses poked their heads out from over the stall doors, trying to see what the ruckus was about-and when they realized they cheered them on...but they fell upon his deaf ears. He did not care. He paused but only a moment, raising his head in the pale light to flare his nostrils and bring her scent to him once more. The handler thought now he had finally settled, and so stopped planting his feet-bad idea, as Pumpkin lurched forward once again and the handler fell on his face, finally dropping the lead. Pumpkin was determined, but he did not pick up the pace much as he made his way down toward the scent...he was still bumping into anything and everything, and had a few scrapes on his legs and muzzle to prove it. Finally, after what seemed like eternity though, his nose landed upon something soft. It was wear the scent was strongest, to. His nose was butted up against hers. He flicked his ears, and blinked his eyes-though he could not have seen her even when he opened them. He imagined what she looked like though; no different than the day she left. He did not see the luster gone from her coat, or the light gone from her eyes. He did not see the cracks in her hoof from improper nutrition because she had been too sad and missing him to eat. He saw her the way he had always imagined her. He saw her as the angel in his nightmare, his light in the darkness. He saw her fit as a fiddle in racing condition, teeth perfectly floated as she would nip his shoulder. He did not see what she had become on the outside. Only the beauty that she was, at least to him, on the inside. He nickered gently, and took a step closer, drawing in a deep breath of her scent as he pressed his muzzle against her neck. She smelled different though, but he could not place what it was. And in that moment...for at least just that moment, it didn't matter. He had found his courage. "Balur...Balur...ma boodiwul Balur...Ay wull neber eber weab you ugun. I wub you."

Valor's heart pounded in her chest, the excitement almost too overwhelming. She could hear him running now, and she leaned even harder into the stall front, the old boards groaning and cracking against her weight. The mare called out to him again, reassuring him that she indeed was near. It wasn't long before she could see him, and the poor man that was stupidly hanging on. She giggled at the sight, seeing how hard the poor boy was trying. little did he know just how strong her lover could be. Almost as if he had read her mind, he lurched forward, the young man finally losing his grip.
She watched Pumpkin make his way to her, his strong scent flooding her nares - something she missed greatly. Finally, his saw maw met hers, and she let out a long breath, completely unaware that she had been holding it. Valor nuzzled him back, relaxing into his soft touch. God how she had missed him. She missed his touch, his voice. Everything. And now he was here. The mare had lost all hope of seeing her beloved again, and yet here they were, fate had finally brought them back together. He was exactly how she remembered him, however, he had seemed to fill out more, racing was doing him very well. For a moment, she felt ashamed of who she'd become, but that didn't matter now. Her savoir was here.
The mare closed her eyes as he stepped closer, his warm breath on her neck causing a shiver to run down her spine. She gently draped her neck over his, embracing him. Then he spoke. His words filled her ears, and a soft gasp escaped her lips. What they had felt for each other had never been spoken, and it was about time. "Oh Pumpkin, I love you too. I always have and I always will." She leaned into him, pulling him closer. In this moment, she was his. Forever.

Pumpkin blinked, even though all he saw whenever he did was still darkness. His muzzle trailed over her neck as he brought in her scent, feeling her muscles along her strong crest and down to her withers, where it finally rested. He pressed his body up against the boards, wanting nothing more than to be in the stall with her. It wasn't hormones or anything...he just wanted to be able to hold her fully, without boundaries. Here was his perfect and beautiful bride, even though he'd never seen her. He knew her heart was beautiful, and that was all that ever mattered to Pumpkin. He nickered again, nuzzling against her withers and shoulder. He could feel her withers protruding a little more than he remembered, and worry struck him slightly. Was she not well? Was he going to lose her shortly anyway? But then she pulled him close, and he realized that worrying about the future was useless unless you were living in the present to enjoy every precious moment of it. His muzzle rested across her back, nuzzling the other side of her neck as she spoke. Part of him had always knew that she had loved him back; but there was always self doubt in his mind because of his impairment. She deserved a stallion who could protect her from all harm...and here he would be, blind forever and useless. His tail flicked; a brief reminder to himself that there was no point in worrying about it. She'd said it herself that she loved him, and that's what mattered wasn't it? The only thing he had to stop was the humans trying to pull them apart again. He pulled away only briefly to pin his ears at the handler as he approached, causing him to slowly back away. He placed his head against her withers again, nuzzling gently once more. "I'll neber leb dem spwib us apurt agun."He spoke matter of factly as he draped his whole cranium over her withers and pulled himself closer still, just trying to pull her into a sort of hug. The boards creaked between the weight of the two of them leaning on them, but since they were leaning from opposite directions they did not splinter or crack further. Valor leaned into her lover and exhaled deeply, relaxing into his embrace. God she had missed him. They had been separated so many times, yet time and time again, they had always made their way back to each other. A soft shiver ran down her spine as she felt his muzzle trail down her pelt, her breath catching for a moment when she felt him pause at her now protruding withers. She could sense his worry and she silently reassured him with a gentle nuzzle to his neck. "Darling, I'm alright. I promise".
She spoke clearly and slowly, making sure he understood her. She wasn't ill, but having lost him again, and all the traveling she had done, had led to her receiving poor nutrition and loss of appetite, but she would eventually gain all that back, and the luster would soon return to her coat. Her world finally seemed to be complete now, minus two things. Valor had never wanted anything more than to pass on her legacy, and she hoped that one day her dream would come true.
The mare snapped back into reality when she felt him pull away, only to realize that he was staring down one of the stable hands, and a small smirk seemed to appear on her kissers as the boy backed away. Valor relaxed once more when her lover leaned into her once more, his words gracing her auds. "Pumpkin, I won't let them split us again either. You are mine, and I am yours." She leaned into him as she spoke, trying to pull him close to her, but the boards between them making it difficult.

Preston had come to the sales barn once a week for the past month, hoping to find a connection with one of the horses for sale there. Unable to do so he always felt more and more defeated to come back the following week. Sure he had all the school horses he could ride, but it wasn't the same as having a trusty working horse to connect with him. He didn't have the bond with the school horses as he wanted with just one horse. [break][break]
His head was dipped, as he walked the isle of the sales barn, but as the noise of a horse moving toward him, and quickly, he picked his head up, and just soon enough to dodge the white stallion moving down the isle toward one of the stalls, yanking a handler along with him. Now laying in a bale of hay on the side of alley he watched what played out. Well this was interesting he'd never seen anything like this before. [break][break]
He pushed himself up off the bale of hay and picked a few stray pieces of hay off his jeans. He followed after the stallion and watched what transpired. That was true love right there, and he could feel it emianting from the two horses. The black mare and the white stallion. He smiled. Although something else triggered him, he couldn't tell what it was at the moment but he had to have the pair. He had to keep them together. He moved to the handler that had let go of the white stallion to speak to him. He had saved up a lot of money, but he had some from the school to buy horses for the stable again. He tapped the man on the shoulder and spoke to him in a hushed tone. He took the paperwork for both the horses and looked over them. Two retired race horses, although the white stallion was blind. Preston saw prospect in him as a simple ranch horse, a trail horse maybe, he had a lot of faith in him, with the proper training. As for the black mare, she'd be a great reining or working cow horse. Either way, they both had a lot to offer for him. Maybe he could strike a bond with them both. [break][break]
He pulled the checkbook from his back pocket and wrote out a check for the asking price for both the horses. He'd have to work extra hard for a while, but it was worth it to keep these two together. Glancing over the paperwork again, it said nothing about the stallion being partially deaf, but in the past he had an experience with one that was blind and deaf and he proceeded to approach the stallion like he did with that mare in the past. He spoke in a loud, but gentle voice, telling him he was there. "It's okay boy, I'm not going to separate you." He said, his hand finally touching his neck--knowing well enough he could be hurt in the process, trying to push the stallion back enough he could un-bolt and push the stall door open to allow the two to be together. Getting him far enough away from the stall to do just that, he removed his hand from the stallion's neck. "You two need to be together. True love should always be together." He knew they couldn't understand them but he felt better saying the words out loud.

Pumpkin squealed and his ears pinned as the man approached, muttering something at them. He snapped toward him, but with his lack of sight and not being able to hear which direction he was coming from...it was way off mark and he stubbed his nose against the stall door. A hoarse whinny escaped him as he shook his head, stepping away from the man’s hand. He didn’t trust humans; they’d separated him and Valor too many times. At the applied pressure on his chest, he tried to rear but the man had him positioned in such a way that he couldn’t. He resorted to biting at the mans head. He heard the faint sound of a clip, and then the man was gone from in front of him. He almost fell on his face, had it not been for Valor standing right there, when he stumbled forward from having been leaning so hard into the man. He felt his beloved now, he felt her rib cage as he muzzled along her body. She smelled awful; like they hadn’t been taking care of her. He squealed when he felt her haunches and her pelvic bone jutting upward. Making his way around her, he felt down to her feet even, they needed to be trimmed and they were cracked. He snorted as he came to her head, nudging her lovingly. “In are nub ole.” You are not ok He moved a step forward, almost tripping again as the hoof caught on small step up out of the stall. Wars pinned he did his best to glare at the new person. “AY deeeeman dat Balur ges a pupor spa day tooodue. A budh, hoof cawre und food.” I demand that valor get a spa day today, a bath, proper hoof care, and food. He knew humans were daft and couldn’t understand him,but it was worth a try, right? His attention turned back to Valor as he started nipping st her mane.

Valor lifted her head as her lover pulled away, her auds flicking slightly backwards are she heard a voice speak to Pumpkin. Valor could sense that this man wasn't like the others. His tone was gentle and calm, no harshness nor anger in his words. The black mare lightly nipped at the stallion's neck as he snapped at the man, silently telling him to quit as she watched the man try to unlatch the stall door. He seemed to want to help them, let them finally be together once more. Valor was confused at first, unsure of why he wanted to help. Over time, she had become weary of people, as they had always broke her trust, time and time again. But for some strange unknown reason, it just felt right to trust him.A soft nicker left her lips as he unlatched the door, as if she was trying to say thank you.
The mare grunted as Pumpkin stumbled into her, and she tried to catch him, but her weakened body straining against his weight. Once he caught himself, Valor could only hang her head in shame and shift uncomfortably as her lover circled her. She had become nothing but an empty shell of her former self, while he still seemed to be in peak racing shape, even after all this time. Her flank twitched as he gently nudged her, flinching at his sudden squeal when he felt her hips jutting out. Valor softly nudged him back, attempting to reassure him, she was really okay, now that he was finally here once more.
Once he had finished his inspection and moved to stand next to her, she leaned into him, breathing in his strong scent once more. God, she had missed this. "Darling, I'll be okay. Don't worry about me." She spoke softly, trying to reassure him as he glared at the man, who had remained close by, watching the two intently. A hoarse giggle left her lips as he attempted to demand that she receive a spa day, knowing that the man wouldn't actually be able to understand his demands. Valor lifted her head and turned her attention back to the man, curious as to what he was going to do next.

Preston felt the nips from the stallion but moved to dodge each of them. As they were together now he rested against the stall door, his back against the wood. He stood there, intently watching the two, attempting to work out the best way to keep them together. There was one of the larger paddocks he could leave them in but they still needed stalls within the stable, but he really didn't want to separate them with just a small wall between them. He felt they needed to be together. They both needed some tender love and care. He tipped his head to the mare as she nickered at him. [break][break]
His fingers traced along his chin. He didn't understand what the stallion wanted but had intentions of making sure the two horses were both well taken care of. He didn't move for several minutes but simply watched them. He wasn't sure what he was going to do now, but he had to get them home at some point, but he was content right now with just watching them. He extended his hand toward the mare, brushing his hand over her dirty fur. He grimaced, how could they let her get this bad. "It's okay girl, we'll get you all cleaned up and well taken care of." His voice was gentle, soft. His other hand extended toward the stallion and patted his shoulder lightly, giving him soft pets as well.

His ears pricked to her words, wanting to believe her but he could hear the bit of cough in her voice. Did she have phenomena? Horses could die of phenomena. He had seen it at...well, heard about it...at one of the racing barns. It wasn't properly treated. He squealed in a panic, ears flipping back and forth. He stomped a hoof, then flicked his ears back at the man as he tried to look for him, his smell. Several attempts to reach him with his nose failed; he kept swinging his head but missing by fractions. Finally, his nose butted up against his chest. He drew in a breath, and exhaled a breath. "Gweb hur ta a bet knau oar yo'll be newbing a hoomun won." (Get her to a vet now or you'll be needing a human one.) He snorted loudly against the man's chest. He smelled no fear on him, and no hostility. The man was safe for them to go with, for now. Until like all other humans he tried to tear them apart. He searched for Valor with his muzzle, finding her chest and crying out as he felt her breast bones protruding even. He lowered his crown to support her neck...she might not be in as bad a shape as he thought, but he couldn't see what shape she was in, only feel it. And it felt awful. Red stained tears started forming at the corners of his eyes; his tear ducts never properly formed so he bled everytime he cried. "Ay wub lose joo agwin. I wilb gewt joo bwedder." (I won't lose you again. I will get you better.)

The mare sighed heavily as the stallion paced around her. She really was okay, just malnourished and underweight. With a few visits from the farrier and plenty of feed, she’d be back in top racing peak once more. She just needed time. Valor watched as her lover searched for the man that had finally reunited him, a quit giggle leaving her lips as she heard him speak. Pumpkin was truly a gentle soul, but he would also be willing to go above and beyond to protect those he loved. Sk gentle, yet so fierce.
She exhaled deeply as she felt his touch once more, leaning into it. Oh how she had missed it. Her head jerked back as he squealed, those awful red tears beginning to stain his handsome face. Softly she nudged his maw, trying to comfort him. “Pumpkin, you’ll never lose me again.. I’ll be alright. The last time we were separated, I thought I had lost you forever.. it put me in a dark place. But you are here now, and everything is bright once more.” She softly nipped at his forelock, stepping closer to him. This new man truly seemed good, she could sense no evil. Perhaps this could be there new beginning?
