It had been morning since she left the shore. It seemed like she had been walking for hours, but each time she touched the grass she felt weaker and weaker. There wasn't any water near by, she could feel it yet. Where was the water on this island. Her hoof stroked the grass beneath the beautiful willow trees, hoping to draw something out, yet no water bubbled up.[break][break]

Groaning Sakura leaned against a a trunk of a willow, hanging her head down. The branches of the willow felt like seaweed against her skin. Although, they also felt like the gentle the cherry blossoms of her home land.[break][break]

Reminiscing about the blossoms made her think of her beloved Shingen. Why did humans have to die? She lifted her head and looked at the tree tops, tears falling from her eyes and rolling down her cheeks. He was the only human she could get close to, who didn't care that she was a monster and they she felt she could trust. Never again would she trust another human. She missed his honey'd words, his red mane that she could tug at, and the feel of his long fingers on her neck.[break][break]

A slight breeze blew through the branches, tangling around her as if to hug her, but it also cleared the tops enough to show the bright moon in the sky. Shingen always watched the moon with her, the little round circle in the sky that was brighter than all the rest. The tears from Sakura's eyes fell harder and her withers heaved. Memories were so painful when the one who shared them was gone.

He had needed to clear his mind, and so he had snuck away in the night. It wasn't like he had been sleeping anyway. He had just come off of his watch shift, and had laid there a moment but with his mind racing...there was no way he could get to sleep. He just needed some time alone, or at least without so many around. Perhaps it was even having to constantly be around his mother again that threw him off a little bit, he didn't know how to act around her. Either way, it wasn't ideal the way he was feeling.
Michelangelo had no idea what he was doing leading his family elsewhere. He mostly just moved along with the herd, keeping his eye open for anything to happen, but nothing ever seemed to transpire and he was bored. His over active imagination had his friends running ahead of them and having all sorts of fun, which was part of why he roamed off when he did. They were resting; Skellington was with them all, and it wasn't like his little brothers...or that one bratty little sister he hadn't really done much with, couldn't add something to the fight. He was beginning to feel unimportant amongst the other foals. They all had something...special about them, and here he was, completely...well, mostly...well...not magically inclined, just a little weird. He felt like his father trusted him, but then he hadn't even come and asked him himself, he had sent the only sibling that both Donnie and him had had a lot of interaction with; Cactus. He was glad that at least she was with him leading the group, but he was still wary of his mother. He had mended things with Donnie. It wasn't his brother's fault for them leaving, he had just followed the parent who left. Things with his mother would probably remain the way they were, because she wasn't there while he was growing up. He barely knew her. Hell, he knew the other mares in the herd better than her...
<i>"Mikey! Mikey! Pay attention for once! Look!"</i> The voice of Raphael came, where they had all been standing in a group conversing under some trees. Mikey had apparently been lost in his own thoughts and his own brain had been screaming at him for some time to wake up from his thoughts. He snorted, and reached down to scratch his face with his leg when he finally saw what his brain had been attempting to process.
His head shot up and he looked at her and blinked. It was almost dark; perhaps she was a ghost and not actually real? It wouldn't be the first time that he had seen something that wasn't there...
He walked a few steps toward her, before letting lose a whinny. She was leaning against the tree in such a peculiar way, that maybe she was the spirit of the tree? The way she moved to look up at the moon though...he saw the glint on her cheek of the tear, and he knew it was the perfect chance for him to just...be himself again.
Turning on his heels he marched over to one of the willow trees and started peeling branches off. He laid them across his back and mashed some into his hair. He rubbed some of the leaves against his legs, staining them in green, and then rubbed some on his face to stain it green. He had to use the ground for it, so there was a grunt as he flopped over. To finish things off, he gave a jolly good roll. This was going to be...entertaining to say the very least.
He looked over his shoulder at her; he was far enough away that she shouldn't have heard, and though surely she would see him coming the way he planned to come-he could probably surprise her a little. With a bit of a gleeful giggle, he moved to the back side of the trees that she was leaning on, moving at a trot through the willows...making sure they rustled as they moved. He turned finally at the one in front of where she leaned, his two tone coat coming at her with all manner of branches and leaves sticking out of his mane, mud and green tree sap slathered on his legs and face...and eyes that were bright with enjoyment.
He got down on his front knees before her, crawling a step closer to her.
"Oh, specter of the night, what might this humble tree sprite do to make the tears go away?"

Donatello had been peacefully dozing, getting ready for his watch shift. They had traveled quite a bit today, and even though it had been rather uneventful, it was still exhausting remaining constantly vigil. Donnie had been given the important task of remaining behind the herd, keeping watch for approaching danger, and he took his job very serious. He didn’t want to disappoint the herd, least of all his father. So even though the trip hadn’t been strenuous as of yet, he was still grateful when Mikey volunteered for first watch and Skellington volunteered for second shift, so he could nap a little bit.

However, Donatello’s slumber had been awoken by his brother’s call. Eyes snapped up, he raised his head. A quick scan of the herd showed that no one else had heard him, which didn’t surprise Donnie. He was so keened into his brother, stemming from a constant need to protect him, that he was sure that he hadn’t made much noise at all. Although he hadn’t woken anyone else didn’t mean he wasn’t in danger, so carefully, not wanting to wake anyone else, Donnie quietly began walking in the direction of where he had heard Michelangelo.

Before long, movement caught Donnie’s eyes. He had to blink a few times to make sure he wasn’t still dreaming. However, it soon became clear that he wasn’t. Mikey was, in fact, was kneeling underneath a tree, covered in mud and branches, walking closer to a light mare. Picking up the pace to a trot, Donatello slid to a stop a few paces away from the tree that was partially hiding the two horses. A look of confusion was clear on Donnie’s features as he asked, “Brother, what are you doing?” Staring at his twin, it was only then that he caught a look at the mare underneath the willow, taking notice of the tears streaking her face and a weariness that colored all of her features. He then spoke directly to her, asking, “Are you alright?”

Her thoughts were still drawn to the past. She could feel the human on her back, how he took care of her. Shingen always treated her like another human, she wasn't just a war horse to him. She was his best friend. [break][break]

She could still vividly remember the first night she had found out he was sick. They were watching the moon, like they did every night, but suddenly a noise came out of his mouth, she could hear the cackle in his chest. He insisted to her that he was fine, but Sakura didn't feel like he was.[break][break]

Months had passed and many battles had happened. They were once again watching the moon from the castle courtyard, near the koi pond that Sakura loved so much and Shingen once again started that strange noise except this time, blood released from his mouth, and fell to the ground, and ran down his lips and chin. [break][break]

Shaking her head she could never forget that, and it stung in her mind. The sound of someone speaking drew her out of her thoughts though. Her blue gaze turned from the moon to the stallion that now crouched in front her. Tree sprite... Confusion drew across her features. "Specter of the night?" She questioned, but before she could receive an answer from the other, another stallion approached, looking strikingly familiar to the first.[break][break]

At his question, she shook the tears from her face. "Fine, just reminiscing." She said softly, attention turning back to the first. "I don't understand what you mean by tree sprite. Those are just myths, legends, stories." She said, pulling away from the tree trunk and gently lipping at the twigs in his mane to pull them free.

Before Michaelangelo could even react, or he mare could for that matter, his brother was on the scene pointing out his foolish behavior. Always the buzz kill, his brother was. He sighed heavily, letting his muzzle slump to the ground a moment at his brother's question. They were siblings...yet he felt like they were still so distant sometimes. He could never just play along, always having to shove reason and logic into things. His auds flicked to hear the words of the femme fatale before him, and his head did not raise until she was starting to lip at his mane. He was seen as a child, by both his brother and the mare. Another heavy sigh left him, as he averted his gaze from them both. It was evident that the mare wanted no childish antics around her, and his way of cheering her up would not work.
With a grunt, he stood and shook his whole body out to release the twigs and leaves from them. The white patches on his body was splotched with mud, but he would worry about that later. He could hear Raphael and Leonardo laughing hysterically in the background of his mind, and his ears pinned a moment to glare at the ground. They silenced themselves, and he slowly raised his head, glaring to his brother a moment.
"I was merely trying to cheer the moon spirit up when you trudged up and ruined the scene."
He grumbled and rolled his eyes at his brother before his gaze returned to the mare, softening substantially as he bowed his head. He tilted it a moment as he looked upon her noticing how her skin shone in the moonlight like silk.
"Legends and myths, and all the stories, have some basis in truth; Lady of Moonlight. I was only playing a part in one to try to cheer you up, though I see that child's play is not for you."
Again he sighed, bowing his head a bit as he stepped away, auds flicking.
"Why is it that as we grow older, we are told that all we held true as a child...was a lie? Why are we told to not believe in ourselves, or we lose faith in ourselves. We believed in everything as a child, but our world grows smaller; darker even as we age. Has our lights gone out? Have our lives been so riddled with trauma that we believe in nothing any more?"
He sighed, turning away from his sibling and the mare, twigs still in his mane as he muttered on. He knew he had lost this battle; the mare seemed to want logic to reign, and that was not something that Michelangelo could ever offer another soul.
"It is as if we lose our free will, and fall into place amongst the tyranny of life. Forced to fit in the mold, we quit fighting for our own selves and just live out our days as a cog in the machine."
He snorted, stomping a foot before he reached down to scratch his leg with his muzzle. He turned once more toward them.
"I will not let it happen to me. You seem a lady of adventure, Madam Moon. Won't you show me the stars by jumping on the next beam of light with me, and riding it toward heaven with me?"
